Summary

Eddie blinked
"Help me how?"
"Find something to think about."
For a long moment, Eddie simply stared at him, and Buck fully expected him to ask him to leave.
"...Okay."
Okay...
Buck's thoughts short-circuited. The realization took a second to settle, circling his mind before finally crashing into place. He was about to help his hopelessly sexually repressed best friend—who he may or may not be desperately in love with—learn how to jerk off.

Out of the corner of his eye, Buck caught Eddie stiffen, knuckles pale against his beer bottle.
"You okay?" Buck whispered in his direction.
Eddie blinked, as if he'd been somewhere else for a second.
"Hm?" His smile returned just as quickly. "Yeah."
Another firework detonated, louder than the last.
Eddie's shoulders jerked almost imperceptibly.
It was so brief Buck almost convinced himself he'd imagined it.

The solution seemed obvious. Glaringly so.
Eddie could tell Buck knew it too—in the way he wouldn't quite look at him directly for more than a few seconds at a time.
The enormity of it was already sitting heavily on Buck's shoulders.
Eddie stayed quiet for a moment, watching him carefully.
It would've been easy to ask the obvious question. Have you considered taking him in?
But that wasn't really the question here. Eddie didn't think Buck was struggling with whether he wanted Theo.

He exhaled slowly, eyes drifting to the window where a light dusting of snow fell in the early morning light—barely enough to stick. It didn’t look nearly severe enough to justify four days of travel purgatory.
“So basically,” Eddie groaned, “we’re stuck.”
Buck shrugged. “We could always rent a car.”
“And drive to California?”
“Why not?” Buck said. “You know I hate flying.”
Eddie did know that. There was little he didn't know about Buck.

Three days on the road, trapped in close quarters with the best friend you are secretly in love with—who also seems to be pulling away from you—should be manageable. Totally manageable. “No apology necessary.” Eddie tapped his phone screen. “Sophia actually texted me today with a show recommendation. She swears I’ll love it.”
Buck glanced over, grateful for Eddie’s easy pivot away from his own silence. “Oh yeah? What is it?”
“Something called Heated Rivalry,” Eddie said. “You’ve got HBO, right?”
