Summary
Soap rested his thumb under the point of Ghost’s jaw and felt where his pulse was racing.
“This is illegal,” Ghost whispered.
“So is the war,” Soap pointed out. “Depending on who you ask.” Slowly, he ran his hand around the back of Ghost’s head and tilted it down.
Fuck, he shouldn’t be doing this. Not with his superior officer, and certainly not in the middle of their deployment to Baghdad, Iraq, 2003.

Summary
Tomorrow, Soap would force himself to be awake at six. He’d be ready, sitting on the stoop, a cup of coffee in one hand and his rifle in the other.
And when he shot Ghost dead, he’d plant thistle in the viscera he left behind.
Ten years after surviving a gunshot wound to the head, Soap is struggling with the reality of retirement and the abrupt, seemingly unprompted reappearance of his ex-lover and former lieutenant. But healing isn't linear, and sometimes things need to shatter and break before they can be built back up anew.

Summary
“So I can what? Move on?” He barks a humorless laugh. “Tha’s rich comin’ from you. As if ye’d do it if ye were me?”
“Johnny—“
“No, fuck this. You aren’t the only one with nothin’ else to live for. I did what I’m good for—I deserved to die from tha’ fuckin’ bullet. It’s not my responsibility to fix ma whole life jus’ because I didn’t.”
***
Soap makes it out of that tunnel alive. Grappling with a newly impaired body and mind unfit for military service, he’s forced to grieve life as he knew it. Ghost is determined to help him figure out how to do that.
Only it seems that Soap’s old life isn’t quite finished with him yet.

Summary
"You love watching me."
It never really mattered where or how — Ghost keeping him in his crosshair, watching his back, seeing Soap shoot and slice and quench a life or watching him play a rabid dog hungry for spoils in a dingy outskirt bar.
And Soap — hell, does he enjoy being watched by him. Would do pretty much anything to keep Ghost's eyes on him, and he's pretty sure Ghost has caught up on that a long time ago.
"Suppose I do."

Summary
"I dunno," he sighs. "Been a tough few months."
"Aye."
"And it's hard being stuck 24/7 with the man who broke your heart."
Ghost’s grip tightens on the wheel.
"I broke your heart?"
"Aye, spat on it and everythin'. When you know that's not where I like to be spat at."
"Sod off."

Soap’s injuries are healing, but his relationship with Ghost is as tense as ever. The 141 is MIA, and a ruthless criminal group is hunting them down. Soap knows he’s not supposed to get involved, but Ghost's rules are made to be broken.

Summary
‘Ah’ve heard of you,’ he says. There is a smile in his voice, though it hasn’t quite reached his lips.
Simon tilts his head slightly. ‘’S that so?’
‘The Ghost,’ he says, voice hushed dramatically, and there it is, the smile, a coy thing spreading slow as he takes a sip of his drink. ‘Everyone and their ma had a story about you, so they did. The boogey-man o’ the Western Front.’ He eyes Simon some more over the rim of his glass, from his mask down and back again, as if he’s not sure what he’s seeing is real. ‘Half thought you were just a tall tale.’
Simon huffs softly through his nose. ‘I am.’
The sergeant gives him another once over. ‘Aye, ye are...’

Summary
He’d had Ghost’s voice pouring into his ear for hours, somehow rough and smooth and smoky all at once, like the kind of Scotch he couldn’t really afford. And that voice, combined with the fatigue, the bone deep weariness, was starting to have the same effect as good Scotch on his resolve, on his fucking impulse control
Soap makes bad choices, no one knows when banter crosses the line into flirting, and their comms definitely shouldn't be used like that. Somehow, despite themselves, they make it work.
This is mostly porn, with feelings added for a bit of spice.

Summary
Ghost lets himself be pulled up slightly, his hand just as steady on Soap's thigh. "That what you need, Johnny?" he asks, licking his lips behind the balaclava. Soap’s eyes drop to his mouth, flick back up. "You wanna draw blood? Be in control?"
"Lt–" Soap starts, lips parted on a rough exhale. A plea or a warning, Ghost can't tell. He's too focused on the way Soap's pupils dilate, and the way the edge of the knife digs into the fabric at his throat.

When Graves rears his head not ten days after Las Almas Ghost starts questioning Soap's loyalty, and with it whatever's left of his own sanity.

Summary
Ghost finally understands why he's seen so many soldiers count down the days until leave. As he looks at Soap, looks at where they are, what they're doing, how far they've come—when he looks at all of it... he gets it.
Of course, the flip side of leave, means that there's far too much free time to think. This, for Ghost, is something he's dealt with over the years to little success. But when he's got Soap, the good far outweighs any of the bad. The bright days outshine the hard nights. And the things that haunt them, even half a world a way, fade into the background.

Bookmarker's Notes
I thought this was finished (thirteenbullets, thirteen works, made sense to me) but [[[bangs head and fist on table]]] I don’t know how I forgot how beautiful this is. Usually any form of softness and openness reads as entirely out of character for me, but this work has broken them down and rebuilt them so thoroughly it doesn’t feel that way. It’s so heartbreakingly hopeful and optimistic while somehow managing to remain grounded in the reality of who they are as characters

Summary
If you told Soap the second time he’d see Ghost’s face was in a shitty bar on a shittier block of Chicago… Well, he might have asked for a little more pomp and circumstance. At least then he’d have an excuse for the way he could hear his blood pumping faster in his ears and why he could feel it, hot and burning behind his eyes.

Summary
Ghost, under threat of another psychological evaluation from both his CO and therapist, has been forced to partake in a penpal programme with another soldier in order to "practise empathy" and "re-establish human connection." He hates it until he doesn't.
MacTavish willingly volunteers for the SAS's new penpal programme because what the hell, it could be fun. And when his penpal ends up being adorably emotionally constipated, well, that certainly doesn't hurt.

Summary
Ghost is motionless, staring down at John's outstretched hand like he's trying to recall on which page of How to Behave Like a Real Human in Polite Society he’s previously seen the gesture.
Before things can get awkward, John turns the aborted handshake into a jovial, manly sort of punch to Ghost’s shoulder. It's rather like how he imagines it would be to hit an adult moose, both in the physical sensation and in the frisson of anticipated danger it elicits. Gamely, he says, “Truck’s just about set, sir. Glad to be working with you.”
Ghost’s eyes flick up to John’s face, and then higher, to his hair. He frowns.

Bookmarker's Notes
i have read this at least 5 times and it gets me every single time. There is something about the humour and distance definitely isn’t the right word but it’s heading in that direction that makes the pining so realistic in such a distinctly Masculine way that is so difficult to capture

Summary
The safehouse is cold and barely standing; Ghost is bleeding, and Soap is trying to keep things professional.
It is not working.
A gunshot wound leads to the mistake they’ve both been circling for months. In the aftermath of a firefight, with nothing but adrenaline and bad decisions to hold them upright, Ghost and Soap finally cross the line.
It was never going to be clean. It was never going to be gentle.
But god, it hurts in exactly the right way.
