For a moment Janus wondered if he could count on the other Sides noticing his absence, but he dismissed it a second later. The other Sides’ teamwork was nothing to write home about when they were deliberating over dinner; who knew how long a rescue would take, if Patton could even muster them for an attempt.
Patton was the only one who’d give Janus the time of day, and he was paying for it with Logan and Roman’s half-protective scorn.
Janus had to find a way to fix that, and soon. Virgil was set against him, Logan too hurt to listen with an open mind, but perhaps if Janus could find a crack in Roman’s resolve, make him soften a little so the others would follow—
“What in Aphrodite’s name,” someone— a very familiar someone— muttered, and Janus froze in surprise. “Is that a— oh.” His voice went flat. “Deceit. I suppose I should be surprised you didn’t manage to slither out of this, too. Is it frightening, being confronted by the consequences of your own actions? I can’t imagine it’s ever happened before.”
*Or: Janus and Roman are captured in the Imagination. Circumstances force some unfortunate truths to come to light.

Summary
The two of them are just too different. One light, one dark; one good, one bad; one beautiful and elegant and creative and strong-willed, one disastrous and abrasive and untrustworthy and self-loathing. The split between them is like a crack in the psyche, a divide in what’s right and wrong. Roman is right, and Deceit is wrong, and everyone knows that a negative and a positive together is still negative. It can’t happen, won’t ever happen, because it’s just not how things are meant to be.
It doesn’t mean he doesn’t wish, though.

“And just what do you need me to help you with?” the god drawls, and it is clear that what he truly means is something along the lines of, And why should I bother to help someone like you?
But Virgil needs the help of a god. So he yanks up the sleeve of his shirt and holds out his wrist for the god’s inspection, baring the flowers and vines that curl out of his skin.
“I need you to take them away,” he says.
In an effort to save his own life, Virgil makes a deal with a god.
The problem with this is not the fact that the task the god sets him is impossible. The problem with this is not the fact that with each day that passes, his village inches closer to killing him because of his magic.
No, the problem is that he's falling in love. And he has no idea what to do with that.

1. Virgil is preoccupied with his boyfriend, and his best friend, D.C., is feeling a bit insecure. High School AU.
2. Roman and Deceit do improv together. Flirting, breaking character, and sword fighting ensues.
3. Logan is going to find out the texture of Deceit’s scales by any means necessary. For science only, obviously. Deceit is alarmed. Patton, Virgil, and Roman wonder when these idiots will get their acts together.
4. Deceit is part snake, and his boyfriends deal with it. Shenanigans, snuggles, and sleepy love confessions result. (Absolutely no plot; just fluff)
5. Patton and Deceit deal with pining after each other in the most obvious way: a prank war.
6. Deceit knows that he is in love with Anxiety, but now Anxiety is with the light sides, and he is alone in the subconscious.

Summary
He walks forward, crouching over the snake, and when it doesn’t stir at all, he works up his courage and pokes it, just a little. Its scales are warm and smooth under his fingertip, and he resists the urge to stroke them. He doubts he could get away with that.
“Janus?” he asks, trying to keep the somewhat hysterical laughter from his voice. “That you?”
Thomas didn't know that Janus could turn into an actual snake, but he's glad to hang out with him regardless. More than glad; ecstatic, even, because he's been trying to figure out how to befriend him for ages, and this seems like a good first step. What he can't figure out is why human-Janus is being so weird about it.
(Alternatively: Janus doesn't trust easily. He wishes he could stop trusting Thomas— it would be so much less terrifying.)

When Remus has the idea to show the others what exactly Thomas’s life would be like without them, Deceit is more than happy to go along with it. With the reluctant aid of Remy, they craft one whopper of a nightmare, carefully tailored to each of the sides.
But what happens when the others, panicked, go searching for them, Thomas in tow? Can Thomas travel the imagination unscathed, or will Deceit and Remus find themselves regretting their impulsive plan?
