Summary

Charles’s response is cold and calculated. “There’s no happiness for you in that team. You will be so, so disappointed. The same way I was. Before.”
“I am not you.”
“No,” Charles adds immediately. “But he is still the same person.”
His brother scoffs. “You can’t possibly know that! It has been months since the whole thing. You’re both acting stupid.”
Charles levels him with a penetrating gaze. “If you really think so, then you’ve never paid attention to a thing I’ve said.” He folds the napkin he had crumpled in his hand. “If that was the truth, I wouldn’t be sitting here. I wouldn’t be ‘laying around my apartment all day’. I’d be winning races for Ferrari.”

James raised an eyebrow, his eyes narrowing in amused disagreement as if he was carefully considering the idea. “Eh, I think you’re as much of a star as him already. And you need to listen to me and admit I’m right, because I am the pole-sitter and you’re not.”
She laughed, shaking her head. “Has that line ever worked for you?”
“With my parents, maybe.”

Summary
The Christmas tree in the corner tried its best to sparkle with enchanted ornaments, but its efforts fell short in the face of the sombre mood. The ornaments shimmered with a desperate radiance, attempting to brighten the atmosphere, yet the tree's branches seemed burdened, as if carrying an overbearing weight. It was large and obnoxious and there was something about it that bothered Lily.
"A bit loopsided this year," James said, noticing her gaze on the Great Hall tree.
“I don’t see it,” Hestia shrugged, diverting her stare back to her plate. “This pie is delicious.”

Maybe Max already knows, sees through Charles right to the roots. “You don’t want to know? Who it is, I mean?”
“No,” Max snaps.
Charles flinches. He feels raw, exposed, like everyone can see the blooms unfurling in his chest.
And then Max is turning to him and sliding a possessive hand around the base of his skull. He waits until Charles meets his eyes.
“They don’t matter.” His long fingers curl in to press at the hinge of Charles’ jaw. “You will make them fall in love with you. Or.” Max swallows, throat bobbing reflexively. He leans in so close they’re breathing the same air. “Or you’ll get over them. Maybe…maybe fall for someone else. Anything can happen.”
“Anything,” Charles echoes, feeling insane. Max doesn’t know. Max is jealous of himself.
Or, Charles and Max have an arrangement to hook up during race weekends; half the grid knows. Charles has hanahaki; hardly anyone knows he’s heartsick, much less who he's pining over. Not his family, not Ferrari, and certainly not Max.

Summary
Charles has a horrible date, and no one is answering the phone to help him. As a last resort, he calls Max, his sort-of-friend/coworker/childhood-enemy-turned-maybe-crush who comes to pick him up. A day later, Max offers to take Charles out on a “fix-it” date, to show him how a real date should go. However, the ‘fake’ date turns out to be a little more real than either man had expected.

“I’ve never seen you around here,” a man’s voice said, snapping Charles out of his thoughts. Charles eyed the man, taking note of the beautiful clothes he was wearing. His formal jacket was navy blue, a red cape draped off of one of his shoulders, and the gold accents tied the outfit together perfectly.
“My brother and his-” he paused, clearing his throat. “Friend. My brother and his friend dragged me along to this party.”
“So you do not wish to be here?”
“Would it offend you if I said yes?”
“It wouldn’t,” the man sighed. “I do not wish to be here either.”
