Summary
Lydia is still very little. That’s the main thing. She’s not a woman, she’s nowhere close to being a woman, and in Jerma’s perfect, idealistic version of the future, she never will be. She’ll be stuck dangling from monkey bars and scraping her knees after falling off penny boards and licking sticky fruit juice from a difficult popsicle off her fingers forever. She’ll keep yelling at both opponents and teammates alike in Fortnite and Fall Guys and whatever else she likes to play on the Switch in his living room, using language that makes Jerma cringe a little. She will be trapped in middle school until Jerma is lucky enough to pass on and their life wrought with torment, frustration, misery, and incredible joy together comes to an end. He wants to beg at her feet, claw at her shins, cry angry, desperate tears, demand that she never grow up. Be his platonic child bride until the world explodes into flames.
