Summary
The attacks keep happening.
Jax is hanging on by a thread. An increasingly tenuous thread that’s threatening to snap at any given moment. He’s beginning to hope for it, if only for the pain to stop.
And then there’s Pomni. Stupidly earnest and recklessly kind Pomni.

Summary
"You're a space wizard, Murderbot. You'll hate it. It'll be great." - The Force, probably
If Murderbot ever proves the Force is sentient, it will plot to murder the shit out of the Force.
So maybe I should’ve noticed I had bullshit magic powers sooner, but in my defense I didn’t think magic was real. Most sane people would insist magic isn’t real.
Wait, whoops, the ghosts would claim it’s not magic. It’s “the Force” (in case you’re wondering, yes, you can hear the capitalization), and I’m a “Force-sensitive” which means I’m able to manipulate the mysterious, supernatural (but definitely not magical) force that a bunch of old dead monks decided to name the Force. (Not that I’m making fun of their naming sense. It’s apt even if it must’ve gotten confusing sometimes.)

Summary
There is no need to struggle against the ossified, corpse-stiff embrace—there is nowhere else to go and nowhere else to be. No one left to look for her, to wait for her, or to even lay flowers upon her unmarked grave. No one left to come back to. Only here, only now, this one single endless moment of stillness, already sinking soundlessly into the left behind past. It is so blatantly easy to let her spirit go out like a weak flame of a guttering candle, to let her body stop and give up, allowing her flesh to unravel into the sweet, putrid rot, so something better, simpler can one day grow from her forgotten bones when even the faint and fraying memory of her crumbles to dust like a flake of ash. It would be so easy.
Then again, there has never been anything easy about Carpenter’s life.

Summary
What were the stages of grief again?
Denial, Jax remembers. He knows that one. It’s the first on the list, the one that clues people in that it’s developing grief in the first place. Not that he’s grieving. That was silly. And a straight up delusional take on his situation. He doesn’t grieve.
Cartoonish purple rabbits don’t grieve.
The dead can’t speak, the guilty don’t deserve to. Pomni has Thoughts™ and makes it Jax’s whole problem.
(Or: the one where she gives one last push.)
