Srivastava’s head tilts, eyes slanting between he and Henry with as close to what he ever probably gets to modestly contained glee. “Enemies to lovers, of course.”
or, with both promotions and sanity on the line, henry and alex are tasked with being the test subjects for a social experiment in which popular romance tropes are put to the test. it works, and then it doesn't, and for however many books alex has erroneously judged by their covers, this one might just be worth getting lost in enough to keep.

He hates that Alex can see all the ugly parts of him now, knows how weak and stupid he is, instead of the strong and reliable friend he’s tried to be for the last five years, since Henry moved here and accidentally stole Alex’s favourite spot at their local coffee shop.
“I’m sorry…” Henry says eventually, when he can’t stand the silence for a moment longer. It’s maybe the longest he’s ever known Alex to voluntarily be quiet for, and by the five minute mark it’s unnerving him.
“Hey,” Alex replies, reaching over to curl his uninjured fingers around Henry’s wrist, pressing lightly against the pulse point there, “you’ve got nothing to apologise for. Not ever, but especially not this, alright?”

OR: The first time it happens is an accident, the second time Patrick is drunk and swears it'll never happen again. The third time, Alex breaks his nose.

It startles Henry—it startles Alex as well, Jesus—as he stumbles with his steps and turns around, eyebrows raised in surprise at the sudden break in peaceful silence in their apartment.
“Hey?” he replies.

Summary
He’s not upset when Alex makes the mistake of bringing up Nathan over dinner, emboldened by the wine and still a little bitter about how he’d treated Henry at the Christmas party. It makes Henry pause the fork on its way to his mouth, like he’s surprised Alex had even noticed.
“It wouldn’t do either of us any good to be upset about that,” Henry tells him bluntly. “He’s hardly touched me in two years since he began fucking the landscaper. Would you care for dessert?”
Alex wipes his mouth with his napkin and leans back in his chair, his blood simmering again.
“Rather get the check, I think.”
Henry says “Very well,” with all of the elegance of someone they both know is about to be thoroughly taken apart, pays the bill, and leads Alex up to his hotel room.

Summary
Henry’s stopped catastrophizing about it or trying to logic his way around it. He might have more feelings about it when it actually happens, but Henry likes knowing that Alex has an extra layer of support and unconditional love anytime he needs it. That if for some reason Henry ever couldn’t be there, Venom would.
He also sort of likes the fact that his boyfriend’s extraterrestrial symbiote-bond thinks he’s hot. It’s not the weirdest thing that could have happened. Maybe.

Summary
They’ve only been living together for two months, since Alex moved to the city for law school. Henry's Brooklyn apartment was a short commute to NYU, and the price was unbeatable, so he agreed to move in without even meeting the man in person. He was nervous, at first, to share close quarters with a stranger, but it’s worked out shockingly well; Henry is kind and considerate, and they mostly leave each other alone.
He’s also quite obviously gorgeous, and Alex doesn’t know why there isn’t a string of men coming and going from Henry’s room at all times, or perhaps one steady man. Inexplicably, Henry seems to have been single since Alex moved in in August.

"I know, babe." Nora's voice drifts over from where she's flopped into Alex's office chair. "When I tell June we're going to be late, should I say it's because you've been too busy drooling over faculty?"
"I'm not the only one drooling." He's seen students sneaking photos of him, and overheard snippets of their conversations that were so obscene they could almost make even him blush.
"You're the only one watching him from your office window when you're already late for dinner."
Touché. But is it really his fault when Professor Fox is there looking like he's fallen out of some fairy tale story book with a handsome prince? The blond locks, those blue eyes which frankly he would have believed were edited if he hadn't seen them in real life, that fucking British accent that he'd caught a snippet of as he'd passed by the open door of one of his seminars.

It isn’t the first time Henry’s wished that they could be physically closer than is actually physically possible. He supposes that’s where most of his own desire typically stems from; some kind of urgent, baser instinct to be as entwined with the person he views as his other half as possible now that he's free to do so.
But there are plenty of ways to get to that feeling without ever making Alex feel like this.
