[PODFIC VERSION] Colin can still remember what Penelope’s handwriting looked like when she was a little kid.
He had spent years getting lost in the large loops of her handwriting, bubbly and sweet, with long curls on lowercase G and Y, the spidery lines on uppercase F and E, the little tail on the letter R that he could never be bothered to complete. The people in the queue with him are chattering excitedly about how obsessed they are with the new P. Featherington book, the cute picture of her cat on her Instagram, the TikTok she posted of her making homemade strawberry ice cream, and Colin can’t stop wondering if a single one of them has any idea what her handwriting looked like when she was young.

“Look,” he says, his voice low, his eyes cast down. “You’re not, like, wrong, exactly.” His cheeks are flushed a delightful pink, and Penelope thinks, not for the first time, how good he would look in makeup. He has the features for it, cheeks begging for blush and those full lips. Long, fluttering lashes.
“Wh-what?” she stutters, the intoxication of having him this close making her lose it, just a little.
“Since Marina, I can’t… I can’t. You know. Finish.”
Penelope blinks at him. “Um. Okay.” She doesn’t know what to say.
“I kind of have this pretty specific thing I need to happen for me to, you know.” God, he’s still speaking. Colin Bridgerton is talking to her about his orgasm. The negronis are suddenly making themselves known in her limbs and chest. She feels woozy.
