Summary
In the beginning, there were two.
There was Dream, and there was Nightmare.
Balance was in Dream's blood, it's all he's ever known. He had never been bold enough to defy fate, and he never would have until Nightmare provoked the change and forced them both into shattered destinies. Even after everything, though, as Nightmare attempted to destroy all they'd ever known he still clung to that past stubbornly.
There comes a point when one must accept that the past is long gone and dead, and you can never save someone who declares they don't need saving.

Summary
There's something terrifying about change, even when it's for the better. In that shithole of an underground, you at least knew it's in and outs. You knew the rules, how things worked, even if you didn't know where your next meal was coming from or when the day would come that would be your last. It was still the same thing. Wake up, go scavenging, reset the traps, come home. Rinse and repeat.
Nothing new happened in an inescapable prison with slowly depleting resources. Just the inevitability that it'd all run out someday.
You knew, intimately, that you'd die there. Accepted it.
Until you didn't.
Until everything changed.

Unfortunately, this gives you and Ramattra a headache, because what are you - the monastery's cook - supposed to do with a grumpy Ravager as your kitchen assistant?

"I am not without my faults." When you catch up with Ramattra, his voice is less cold than before. You feel a little sorry for calling him arrogant - it's not like he chose kitchen duty. And to be honest, he'd probably be better off in the archives! "But I think it's an exaggeration to call me arrogant."
"We all have to work on ourselves a lot," you agree. "And we have to do things we don't like. But let's be honest -" You give him a sideways glance, which he deftly ignores. "Sometimes you think you're better than the rest of us, don't you?"
"I-" At first he seems to miss the soft, playful undertone in your voice, but then he relents. "Like I said, I'm not without my faults."
