The rookie officer gave the other man an unimpressed stare. “Are you saying my soulmate might be affiliated with H.S.O.?”
“It’s very likely, isn’t it?” Harumasa asked, a teasing lilt to his voice.

He can’t find the remote.
His heart seemed to drop as the stronger vibrations continued, he tried to stop the panicked expression from gracing his face once he looked back up at Alhaitham who had a strange new look in his eyes.

Alhaitham thinks he, probably, shouldn’t, but there’s no way he can stop himself, not when he feels the slight shift on the bed and looks at the motion of Kaveh’s hand in time to see him spread his legs again, fingers slipping inside his slick hole, Alhaitham’s come making the slide easier, the sound of fingers moving obscene. Kaveh moans, but there’s something akin to pain and frustration on his face, like he feels seconds away from reaching that annoying itch, scratching it, but fingers end up staying just a few millimeters away from where the pressure actually needs to be.

The ‘I can leave if you don’t want me to be here, too!’ The hitch of his breath as Alhaitham undressed him for the first time, hands shaky, wooden almost because he couldn’t believe he was touching Kaveh, and kissing Kaveh, and none of what happened that day was a dream.

Perhaps it is the rarity of his smiles that makes Kaveh want to chase them, keep the memory of them in his pocket for safekeeping. And of course, the urge to be near him is only to feel the warmth of humanity on his skin, to experience the life he once only had the privilege of seeing from a bird’s eye view. Warmth only washes over his weary heart at the sight of their keys entangled together because of its novelty, the image of mundanity and domesticity it suggests.
“Watch a movie with me,” he says, because he only has so long to be human. “Come on,” he adds when Al-Haitham looks up at him over his book, because despite how infuriating he can be sometimes, Al-Haitham’s witty remarks and petty comments make Kaveh feel just a little more alive.
In which Kaveh, a cupid, is burdened with the task of finding Al-Haitham someone to fall in love with. This proves to be exceedingly difficult, but only because Kaveh is looking in all the wrong places.

And Kaveh hates the way he gets a little wetter at that—the way Alhaitham watches him, eyes flicking down to his lips—hawklike in the way he watches Kaveh so intently. The way he holds the flute to Kaveh’s lips, the way he has one arm wrapped around Kaveh’s waist so he can’t escape.
Slowly, keeping eye contact with Alhaitham, Kaveh parts his lips, just the slightest bit. Tilts his head back, lets Alhaitham’s hand follow the motion, pouring the champagne into his waiting mouth bit by bit.
Kaveh lets it gather in his throat until he can’t anymore, and then he swallows. Slowly and deliberately, and, with how close they are to each other, watches Alhaitham’s pupils dilate at every bob of his throat.

Alhaitham stares at the note. It’s still stuck on the lunchbox Kaveh uses for him. His handwriting is beautiful still, because there was no way Kaveh would be caught dead with hideous handwriting. It was a recent note Kaveh left, and Alhaitham doesn’t have the heart to throw it out. So he leaves it stuck on the cabinet.
He leaves it with all the other notes he’s been keeping since Kaveh moved out.
I’m making falafel tonight, so you better come home.
I spent a lot of time on this, so you better appreciate it.
Come home early tonight, I’m planning on making desserts.

And I threw away your half-cooked eggs, which was disgusting by the way, they were stuck to the pan—”
Knowing that Feng Xin rambles when he’s nervous and won’t stop once he gets going, Mu Qing snaps, “What are you doing back here?”
Feng Xin’s head jerks up, brows furrowing angrily. “Fuck, just shut up and let someone take care of you for once. Eat your fucking congee.”
(Or: Mu Qing is sick and Feng Xin takes care of him. Lots of feelings and emotions ensue.)

Mu Qing, who saved his life once. Mu Qing, who gets a glint in his eye every time Feng Xin rises to his bait. Mu Qing, with his stupidly soft looking hair that he’s always curling behind his ears, and his stupid beautiful eyebrows and perfect facial structure and stupid lip gloss that he always wears that Feng Xin thinks must taste like strawberries, because it leaves his lips looking shiny and soft and annoyingly plush and pink and ripe, and Mu Qing’s stupid hands with the always perfect nail polish and the way they’re cold to the touch when he brushes against Feng Xin, and-
Feng Xin looks down. The napkins are soaked with soy sauce.
It happens once. They both agree that it shouldn't happen again.
It happens again. And again. And again.
