Summary

Rocky. I can’t put this all on the guy right now. He should be happy. We are going to Erid. We are going to save his planet.
“CBC. A complete blood count.” I answer, hoping he doesn’t ask me why.
“Purpose, question?”
Rocky, please. I’m trying to spare you right now.
Basically, Grace gets exposed to a dangerous amount of radiation during an EVA and doesn't want to tell Rocky bc of what happened to Rocky's crew <3
THIS IS A REWORKED VERSION OF "TEMPEST" - after some comments, I wanted to keep the soul of the story, but make it more scientifically plausible. While there are still probably some inaccuracies, I still hope this isn't as messy as before.

Summary
It had been a long and difficult 27 years since the Hail Mary had launched. Not as terrible as it could have been, but not easy. Humanity had survived and adapted, as it always did. There had been terrible wars. There had been incredible acts of kindness. There had been massive scientific breakthroughs. And now, there were two distant blips of Petrova-light, picked up by the Deep Space Network, hurtling home. Two probes, braking hard as they hurtled toward Earth holding the secrets to its salvation. They were late, or at least, not very early, but they were here.
Grace may have made his peace with dying to save Rocky, but Rocky insists they return to Earth.

“What are you talking about?” Grace's fingers played quick chords as he spoke. He didn’t even look as he did it, but it did not make them any less purposeful.
“Discussing possible reasons why Tau Ceti is not infected while other stars are,” Eva replied deftly. “I would invite you to join, but we were just finishing—”
“Oh, that’s easy.” His hand twisted a knob, and the notes came out sharper. “It is infected—Petrova Line and everything.”
In Grace's opinion, dreaming about time traveling is no excuse for getting out of practice with his Eridian. To the rest of the Petrova Taskforce, it seems a bit odd that their resident Astrophage expert has suddenly taken to carrying a keyboard around and playing it whenever he speaks. Eva Stratt resolves to figure out what is going on.

Summary
Grace has awoken with body sores, a stuffy but runny nose, and lungs tightened by illness. He groans, throwing an arm over his eyes to shield them from the minimal bio-dome illumination. A migraine pounds wildly in his skull despite his efforts to reduce the pain. He inhales sharply but the breath of air slams into him like a bullet. How does one get sick in a specially made bio-dome, free of contaminants and hazard? He should've known better than to let himself get lured into that freezing ocean. Damn Rocky's taunting abilities.
OR
Grace wakes up sick and slightly delirious. Rocky doesn't understand colds, but tries to fix it anyway, albeit wreaking a little havoc on Grace's mental wellbeing in the process.

“I'm good. Just have a slight headache,” Grace muttered, knowing he wasn’t fooling Rocky by insisting he was totally and completely fine, “Gonna get some medication in me, lay down for a few minutes, then I’ll be right as rain.”
“Grace said body was good. Head pain was not mentioned. Rocky no understand rain statement; explain, question?”
Rocky rolled behind Grace as he started back toward the medbay, resigned to his fate as another pulse of pain shot through his skull. He tried to shake it off, clearing his throat, “Right as rain means…uh, ‘good as new,’ I guess? Does that make sense?”
He stumbled over a discarded jumpsuit on the floor, hissing when his already bruised knees dug into the metal floor. God, he was really stupid like this, huh?
“Grace wrong as rain now.”
(Grace has a migraine, Rocky helps as best as he can.)

Various snippets of Grace and Rocky’s time together on the Hail Mary because I need more of them just hanging out being bros.
Various moods. Beginning notes will contain warnings as needed. Can be read in any order.
1. Grace can’t sleep. Rocky teaches him what it really means to “watch.”
2. Grace discovers how Eridians clean out their radiator vents.
3. Grace has a scary moment with the Hail Mary’s water recycling system. Rocky’s asleep and can’t help. Rocky doesn’t do well with waking up alone.
4. Grace teaches Rocky how to play “high five.” Rocky is not amused.
