And Octavius's got that distant look in his eyes. Jedediah remembers - it's the same look he had when they'd stumbled, one foot in front of the other, leaning on each other as they fought their way back to the museum after crashing into snow taller than themselves; the same look when Jedediah had tumbled out of the hourglass, seconds away from death, and then again when he'd enveloped Octavius in a bone-crushing hug, too giddy from their victory to really process the bursting ache in his heart; and then, when they'd said their final goodbyes, quiet words and half-hidden feelings even while alone in a museum so accustomed to life.
And damn him, because when Jedediah thinks about it like that, he must be crazier than a bessie bug to have not realized it earlier.or: in which Jedediah gets darted - and it turns out to be quite the enlightening experience.

will have to give this a reread since i don't exactly remember most of it but just skimming the first few paragraphs reminds me of what drew me to this fic. written with an incredible formality and elegance, but still in plaintext. incredibly sweet without being too much. descriptions of characters are wonderfully integrated into the story. i don't know how else to describe this other than everything is woven together with some incredible technical skill.

one of my favorite jedtavius fics ever. literally just a Hallmark movie but with teachers (go education system!) and natm, which automatically makes the whole thing infinitely better. very very sweet and wonderfully in character. i'm actually quite grateful that the author made jed a vocational studies teacher and oct a drama teacher - in addition to being quite possibly the most accurate of the subjects that they'd teach (jed's a bit of a handyman and oct's a huge nerd imo), it's a good bit of representation for those lesser-known subjects. forever wish i'd taken theater in high school.
also is one of those fics where you can tell the author has actively experienced some of the source material - it's too insane to not have. -

oagh. ouch. one of my FAVORITE do-over, exes-to-lovers, bittersweet melding to sweet and throw in a bit of literal chronology as well fics ever - let alone simpatico fics. percy is easy to do, but brainstorm in particular is portrayed in a very mature manner which is rarely found in most other fics; he's not pigeonholed into the polar opposite of perceptor, but rather, he's learned his own lessons - and had his own fair share of mishaps and misfortunes - after the ending of LL. notably he's bitterly upset and shrouded in that slightly deflective and charming manner, which makes him all the more. well. brainstorm. perceptor is also wonderfully insecure, which is not an easy characterization to write - both for a character so genius and a trope so unlikeable - but perhaps it's the hindsight and maturity of being in a relationship myself, or perhaps his role in this story was always written so well, but to see him take the backseat in his own story! you can hardly blame him for being fearful of quark, but you scream at him all the same. you cheer when they get back together. this fic blows the "sad ending" of LL out of the water with a fantastic focus on simpatico.

forever rotating this fic in my mind,,captures the essence of whirl (and his speech) so damn well!! love these fics where it could totally fit into the canon, and tbh if we weren't gonna see og universe whirl in a functionist setting, this is absolutely the next best thing (and seeing whirl, in all that chaos, functioning IN this kind of environment? *chefs kiss*) it's just. damn. love a good cywhirlgate fic :') such a beautiful balance of angst and cheeky ol whirl, these three deserve allll the best
(and bonus mountain goats accompanying soundtrack? fuck yea!)
