Chapter Text
“Okay, I think it is on now!” An excited trill spoke as the device turned on. Surrounding the device were two beings, one owning a more exciting look than the other. The other looked more amused at the excitement of their friend. The screen flashed slightly as it was set down, focusing on the scene in front of it, revealing a bluish alien excitedly glancing at the screen. Beside them was a green older looking alien of the same species, who looked slightly amused at the others excitement, then they spoke up.
"Hello Galactic Council! We are currently studying our most recent discovery, Dirt!" The blue one said, their tendrils wiggling slightly at their excited movements.
"Also known as DW - 02." The previously amused alien said in a more reserved manner. Their skin was a green color with lighter green spots along their horns, nose and tail. Compared to the blues and more ornate patterns of the younger alien beside them, they were a lot more speckled in design. "Once again, we are forever grateful to the Council for allowing us on this mission, and all the plentiful resources." The alien spat the last part a bit bitterly. The younger one looked at them a bit strangely at that comment.
"Anyways! It is time for formal introductions!" The blue alien chirped. "My name is Exlo! He/Him. And this is my father…" Exlo trailed off, wanting his father to answer for himself. The green alien perked up, having spaced out a moment before. "Dex. He/Him." Exlo's father plainly introduced himself. He then glanced at Elxo, noticing how his son seemed to violently jitter with excitement. "Go ahead, Elxo. It's your turn now."
Elxo stood up, frantically tapping the pad below him and bringing up a hologram of what was basically hundreds of messily done notes. He stood up, preparing himself to make sense of these notes. "So we basically found life on Di– I mean, DW02! Not only that but these creatures seem to be sentient and have their own societies! Which was why we were seeing buildings and things clearly not natural despite the entire planet not being inhabitable! We were simply wrong! These creatures are clearly sentient and capable of intelligence! Which is why we will need living samples of life! Of course we do have to land on DW02, and there is no telling how terrible that could go!"
And as Elxo droned on and on, Dex silently listened to his son's rant and pointed at the terribly made drawing of what this new species could look like. Pure pride showed in his green eyes, before he lifted his head up momentarily. "We have to make contact, assure peaceful intentions! It is going to be so exciting how we are going to make actual history on this ship!" Elxo chattered along talking to the screen.
As he ranted on and on, from the open hall passed by this hulking red figure that glanced by them for a moment. Then they took a few steps back to come back into view from the door, narrowing their eyes at the two. This alien, sharing most similarities to the other two, had thick dark red skin that was covered by a dark magenta silk cloth that they used as clothes. Their horns seemed to break and split off from each other, like fragile split ends. They wore specific jewelry that kept their horns together. "There is no sense of professionalism on this ship, is there?" They scowled, before taking a moment to stare at the screen. "Remmu. She/Her. Head of security on Ship 8628-DRE." She said, though it could barely be heard over Elxo's constant rant which had somehow stayed on track and was somewhat comprehensible. Dex gave her a strange look but didn't say anything, shifting uncomfortably away from her. Remmu glared at him and soon left the room.
"Oh! And we have to show you the preparations around the ship!" The blue alien said, immediately bringing up the ship's blueprints on his pad and showing them to the screen. "That can wait, Elxo. The log is getting too long." Dex mumbled, earning a strange stare from his son.
"No, it is not?"
"Yes, it is."
"What do you m–"
"ATTENTION ALL CREW. THE SHIP'S ENGINE HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. PLEASE PREPARE FOR AN EMERGENCY LANDING!"
The rooms began to flash red as the alarms went off. The speaker's message repeated over and over as both Elxo and Dex started to panic. "The engine?!" The blue alien shrieked as the floor started to shake. The room seemed to tilt as the objects in it started to slide, which included both aliens. The two tumbled, hitting the wall. "The device! We have to get it! It could get destroye–" Elxo yelled before getting cut off by his father.
"Leave it! We need to get to the safe room!"
"But the communications log!" Elxo argued.
"IT DOESN'T MATTER!" Dex screamed, picking up his son and rushing out of view of the camera.
"BUT MY RESEARCH! MY BEAUTIFUL RESEARCH!" Elxo's woeful screech sounded as the ship began to shake further and eventually everything started to fall forward. The screen crashed into the wall as it cracked and shattered. The log slowly ended as the device powered down…
