2023 Haiku Writing Month Poems

Summary:

A collection of haiku that I wrote for National Haiku Writing Month 2023.

Notes:

Unlike my 2022 Haiku Writing Month collection, I managed to write the full 28 haiku for the month as I had started on time this year. This is my first time successfully completing it.

Work Text:

Christmas Lights

Nothing looks as sad

As Christmas lights in the rain

During wintertime.

Power Outage

The wind blows strongly,

Knocking out all the power.

Go get a flashlight!

Washed Away

The snow on the ground

Is washed away by the rain.

None of it is left.

Winter Diamonds

The sun is shining.

The snow below is sparkling

Like winter diamonds.

Writing in the Dark

The power went out.

I am writing this haiku

In total darkness.

High Winds

The high winds are strong.

Trees are swaying back and forth.

Let’s hope they don’t fall.

Grey Skies

The skies are all grey.

The clouds cover up the sun.

Such dreary weather.

Black Ice

Walking on the road

Can be very dangerous

Due to the black ice.

Sunshine

Going for a walk.

Getting my vitamin D

From the sun above.

Spring Is Coming

Spring will be here soon.

The birds in the trees will sing.

The flowers will bloom.

Job Applications

Trying to focus.

Writing job applications

Is so tedious.

Tree Branches

There are tree branches

Lying all over the yard,

Knocked down by strong winds.

Snowfall

Little flakes of snow

Slowly falling through the air,

Landing on the ground.

Valentine's Day

Discount chocolate

After Valentine’s Day is

The very best part.

Shoveling Snow

Shoveling the snow,

Not the most fun thing to do

But it must be done.

Warm Temperatures

Warm temperatures

Are causing the snow to melt.

Everything is wet.

Doing Laundry

The huge laundry pile

Never seems to get lower

Despite the washing.

Lazy Day

Just hanging around

And doing nothing at all.

It’s a lazy day.

Sadistic Dentist

Wearing masks and gloves

As I cause pain to patients.

I sure love my job.

Reading Fanfiction

Reading fanfiction

Is something I do sometimes.

I ignore the smut.

Extermination

The killings will be

Slow and extremely painful.

No one will be spared.

Evergreen Trees

Whether spring or fall,

Evergreen trees stay the same,

Keeping their colour.

Clouds

Fluffy white cotton

Floating high up in the sky

But made of water.

Sailboat

Floating on the sea,

Catching the wind in its sails

To keep moving on.

Blowing Snow

Snow blows through the air,

Creating a thick grey wall.

I can hardly see.

Snow Piles

The snow lands in piles

Seven centimetres high,

Not good for driving.

Cell Phone Upgrade

I need a new phone.

My current one will soon be

Just obsolete tech.

Masquerade

A mask hides my face

As I dance with a beauty

At the palace ball.
