Beneath the Wild Soil

Summary:

WORK IN PROGRESS—UPDATES ARE RANDOM!!

- - -

Amethyst Dragongem loves her home planet, but her home planet isn't exactly somewhere you can live and walk through like it was a simple garden. Fantashia was more than that, it was more than just a planet. It was home to never before discovered secrets and history that most humans would never want to touch, nor even reach for in the first place.

Well- adventures are interesting, I suppose...

Notes:

Other Info:

Shapeshifters think humans are weird and shapeshifters are overpowered. Animals can talk in their own language called 'Creature Speak' and everything wants to kill you on Fantashia, sorry, not sorry. Amethyst is fourteen years old.

Chapter Text

[As with all my stories, none of this writing is final and it is subject to change frequently!]

Amethyst could feel the sizable creature’s breath against her neck. She couldn’t see it thanks to the cave being endlessly dark, but she could feel the thing’s breath tickling the skin on her neck. Why? Because Amethyst was reckless and decided exploring a certainly inhabited cave was a great idea. It wasn't... it really wasn't. Here she was, not even twenty minutes later, face-to-face, well, as close as she could say that because she couldn't see anything, with some kind of beast. The cave didn't have any particular smell, unless moss counted.

"So, fun times?" Amethyst weakly attempted at humor.

The monster only exhaled, its hot breath making Amethyst's hair billow.

"Figures..." Amethyst grumbled to herself.

Thanks to shapeshifter adaptions, she could faintly make out the outline of some large creature, maybe a dinosaur or such. It was hard to tell when everything was coated in darkness. Oh well, Amethyst thought to herself. Another day, another giant animal trying to hunt her, because this is what her home planet, Fantashia, was like! The creature leaned forward toward her, sniffing heavily with presumably huge nostrils. One of its sharp talons tapped her arm, like testing her reactions.

Amethyst didn't flinch, keeping her bare feet planted. Most shapeshifters didn't wear socks or shoes because it could damage the earth and nature. That was definitely something no one did in Fantashia: hurt or break apart the very planet that kept them alive, or I guess most of them, alive. Fantashia wasn't exactly a cakewalk for sure. Everything, creature, plant, or other shapeshifter, was waiting for the right moment to strike when you were caught off-guard. Even if you did startle a shapeshifter (hard to do since they have reflexes ten times faster than that of a human), they could always use something like telekinesis, telepathy, or even just a forcefield to deflect whatever attack you try.

The beast huffed halfheartedly, offended by the lack of reaction. Amethyst's eyes followed the shadowy outline of the creature up to it's eyes, or where its eyes would've been.

"Hey, why don't you pick on someone your own size?" Amethyst called out to the animalistic being.

The creature's long, spindly spines on its back began to glow bright orange and rattle ominously at the retort, a low growl building in its throat.

Amethyst awkwardly glanced away, "Well, dang it, of course you can do that..."

The monster lunged forward, targeting her neck. Amethyst, on the other hand, was speedier, side-stepping to dodge the beast's massive maw. It shrieked, raucous and furious, before its head snapped toward her. Amethyst did a few jumping jacks, but her eyes remained on the great beast. It stared at her in disbelief.

"Exercise is important!" The female shapeshifter shot back impatiently.

"Stand still so I can eat you," The monster snarled in return, lumbering over in her direction.

"Mmm... nah, I shouldn't," She backflipped a few feet away.

Amethyst twirled, and flung several shurikens at the creature. The shurikens firmly embedded themselves into the beast's neck, sinking into the monster's flesh beneath the scales.
