When Xiao Zhan sets the coffee on one of the tables by the window, Yibo looks down at the cups and chuckles, all low and warm. Yibo’s laugh has always been so at odds with the stoic and calm persona he sells, something sweet. Xiao Zhan still remembers the first time he heard Yibo laugh properly, when Xiao Zhan flubbed his lines during the script reading, little croaking giggles ringing in his ears. It hadn’t been a life-changing event — Xiao Zhan’s life isn’t divided into before and after hearing Yibos laugh — except that it is, just a little. Before Yibo, after Yibo. Before The Untamed, after whatever the mess that happened after was. Yibo being here right now fucks up the entire concept of after Yibo.

He’s in waving distance, and Xiao Zhan – he wants to wave, he should, but something unnamed, something heavy in his stomach isn’t letting him. His fingers flex around the bags in his hands, but their weight has become negligible. Xiao Zhan’s tongue is dry in his mouth, his throat working helplessly as he sees Yibo throw his head back at something the man is saying, and shake his head in an almost tender manner.
Or: Xiao Zhan sees Yibo with someone else, and it turns his whole world upside down.
