When someone else's stupidity causes Laurent to get into a bicycle accident, he refuses to go to the hospital and winds up being taken home by a good Samaritan to see to his injuries. When his head clears, he'll probably have thoughts about being in a strange man's apartment, but until then, letting a handsome and caring doctor clean him up and tend to his wounds isn't the worst thing that's ever happened to him.

Fear grips him, his heart pounding, and Laurent tries to back away from his own body, hands dragging his new weight.
His pants are in tatters, the seams split and laces ripped. Every other blink, he sees nothing but an orange outline of what used to be his legs thinning out and growing bluer by the second. Laurent takes in quick, frantic breaths. His tongue has stopped bleeding, mostly, clotted and thick in his mouth. Laurent looks up at the shaman, frowning down at him. Her whispering has stopped, her eyes normal once more. Her shoulders are slumped, and her brows furrowed.
She looks drained. Defeated. Disquieted.
In Vaskian, she asks, “Does your body still work?”

"There must be something you want," the dragon said, his tail flicking lazily behind him.
"Besides a ride home, you mean?"
The dragon gave him a long-suffering look. He and Laurent were surrounded by mountains of treasure— radiant gemstones, ornate spellbooks, ancient artifacts. There was the glint of Veretian weapons and the shine of Akielon armor. Coins of silver and gold pooled around his ankles.
Laurent stared at the glimmering piles of precious things and felt empty.
"What I want can't be bought, not with diamonds and gold."

Summary
Laurent was hardly surprised that his Uncle was going to kill him. It felt inevitable.
What he was surprised by was the Prince of a kingdom of selkies (something he had only believed to be fairy tales from books that made up the wonder of his childhood) saving him from that death (which honestly he felt he might just be hallucinating or dreaming in the afterlife).
A Selkie!Damen AU where human Laurent survives an assassination attempt against all odds and the plot that follows. This story will be the longest work in a series or collection of other works all set in the same AU!

Following the untimely death of both King Aleron and Crown Prince Auguste, after a mysterious illness, the land of Vere was thrown into despair. The young Prince Laurent, Aleron’s only living heir was a mere boy, and incredibly survived the illness which befell Arles. Thankfully, King Aleron’s brother courageously became Regent for his nephew, holding the throne until Laurent came of age. He took Laurent under his wing, and raised him side by side with his own son, Nicaise, who was the same age as Prince Laurent.
In an effort to stabilize Vere, the Regent betrothed young Prince Laurent to the Prince Damianos of Akielos, publicly ensuring peace and prosperity for both nations.
Sadly, no one saw the Regent’s treachery. To stay in power, he curses Laurent, turning him into a swan and uses magic to pass Nicaise off as Laurent just as Damianos arrives at Arles for the royal wedding.
