When the king dies, corrupt members of the Royal Council conspire to place a puppet on the throne and seize power for themselves. To thwart their plan, Viktor, the court mage, can only count on Mel, the newest addition to the Council. But time is running out. So when Mel reveals the existence of a secret heir to the throne, Viktor immediately sets out in search of this man, the only one who could save the realm.
However, there's just one problem.
Jayce Talis is aware of his royal heritage.
And he wants nothing to do with the crown that is rightfully his. -

Jayce had never been more comfortably warm in his bed, and the fact that his alarm had yet to sound but somehow he was awake made him even more determined to enjoy the sensation. He’d always ran too hot, the fire of the forge burnt strong in him his Papa had teased, but for some reason the heat was pleasant, even with the duvet managing to stay in position the whole night. As sensations slowly began to wake up, he scoffed when he realised that again he’d ended up hugging the pillow in his sleep, and tried to ignore the little voice in the back of his head that reminded him of how long it’d been since he’d gotten laid.
To his horror, the pillow shifted in his arms and he threw himself back, crashing into the cold wall behind him. When his vision finally settled, he nearly pinched himself at the sight.

At twenty-four, Viktor was the newly crowned King of Zaun. And the heaviest link in his chain was the betrothal contract to Lord Dimitri.
Dimitri was… acceptable. Handsome in a sharp, calculated way, wealthy beyond measure, and from a house whose armies could shore up the crown’s weakening borders. He was also a pompous, preening peacock who spoke in political platitudes and looked at Viktor not with desire, but with the cold assessment of a man acquiring a particularly fine piece of real estate.
He stood before the floor-to-ceiling window of his solar, watching the sun rise over the city. The light, pure and hopeful, felt like a personal insult. Behind him, the rustle of parchment and the soft clink of a quill being set down signaled the end of his morning audience with the commander of his kingsguard.
Sir Jayce de Talis. His sworn sword. The man who held Viktor’s heart in his gauntleted hands and refused to acknowledge it.

Viktor arrives to the Kingdom of Piltover as the newly appointed healer for the crown. Magic is forbidden in Piltover, and little does anyone know, Viktor is a mage. That is until newly appointed knight Jayce Talis sees him perform magic to save Princess Kiramman.
Jayce keeps Viktor's secret, and helps him uncover magic runestones that Viktor came there for. A ritual backfires, and suddenly Viktor is the unwilling host to a trapped spirit called The Herald.
Viktor's secret becomes harder to keep quiet, and when the kingdom finds out that he's a mage, he is sentenced to death.
Jayce betrays the crown to save Viktor before his execution, and they run away to the Kingdom Of Zaun, determined to find a way to free Viktor from The Herald.
