Summary
In a modern world of sorrow, two animals become caught in battle. A fox, cunning but flawed, and a nightingale, stubborn but delicate.
The fox had not eaten in many months, for he had convinced himself he did not need to eat often. He'd decided that it was just the way his kind were built. He was getting hungry, though, so hungry that his throat burned and his stomach slowly ate away at itself. He hadn’t been this hungry ever before. It almost made him miss the life he ran from. He had to eat, and soon. The pain was becoming unbearable.
As opposed to the fox, the nightingale was just starting his life. He had a good job, a stable group of friends, and decent grades. He lived in the good part of town, albeit alone. Though both of his parents had been lost to time, he had everything he could ever dream of and more. Then, he met the fox.

Today’s shoot is worse than usual; laying on the cold concrete floor of Val’s set, this time built to look like a sort of sex dungeon, with whips and chains and all sorts of wonderfully cruel things attached to the walls. It’s a great scene! Or, it would be, were Angel not cornered by one of the ugliest goons in hell.
He sticks his hand up in the air, waving it hurriedly in the direction of the director’s chair in a vain attempt to get Valentino to put him out of his misery
“Cut,” the moth barks sharply, impatient and irate. He turns his attention to Angel. “What.”

“Yeah, it is,” Angel stresses, turning over on the couch and resting his chin in Husker's lap. “We both know what kind of power comes with that shit. I can't imagine you with that kinda influence, ya know?”
“You wouldn’t have liked me back then,” Husk grunts in agreement, absently running a hand through Angel’s hair in an attempt to distract him from further questioning. Unfortunately, the spider isn’t so quick to fold.
“I don’t like ya now, either, so it couldn’t have been that bad,” he jokes, for which Husk lightly flicks his forehead.
“Trust me, Angel. It was.”

“Angel!”
The overlord storms onto set, wings billowing behind him and a snarl on his face. He wraps an angry arm around Angel and his fingers almost crush his phone as he shoves it into his face.
“What is this?”
Angel shrugs, terrified. “An article, Val.”
“Read it,” he spits, “out loud.”
Angel tries to hide the shuddering in his breath as Val once again brings the phone into his view.
“One Husband Just Isn’t Enough For Angel Dust,” he reads, hands shaking at his sides. He’s trapped by Val’s wrath, nowhere to go, nowhere to run. He can’t stay, Val will kill him; he can’t leave, Val will find him and then kill him. A photo of him from the night before slips onto the screen, sitting on the ground with Husk’s face in his hands, kissing his forehead. Fuck.
