Summary
There are two matters in life that Mr Huxley deems important: the welfare of his company, and the necessity of its heir. Applesoft is thriving, his face in all of the papers, but no matter how hard he tries, Mr Huxley cannot seem to find anyone willing to inherit it. You see, out of all his offspring, not a single one is good heir material.
So he tries again, and again, and again, until there are dozens of children (and even more rats) within his walls. Things can only go downhill from here.
(Or: A collection of one shots surrounding the most chaotic, tragic, lore-ridden family there is.)

Summary
“You can’t,” Hugo responds instinctively, and this time, he can’t hide the panic in his voice. “Sylvia, they’ll–”
“I can do whatever I please,” Sylvia raises an eyebrow at him, entirely unbothered, and Hugo despises with every ounce of his being that she’s right. “Or have you forgotten? One of the terms of our deal is that I keep this a secret.” Her mouth twists on the final word, amused and derisive at its childishness. “If you choose to bring an end to said deal, so ends my silence.”
Hugo bites his tongue, hard enough to hurt, but not enough that the bitter tang of copper has a chance to overwhelm him earlier than it should. “...What do you want me to say?” He asks weakly, defeat lining every inch of his tense shoulders.
Sylvia scoffs at him. “Have a little creativity. I’m not going to put words in your mouth. It’s your job to convince me. You want this? Say so.”
OR: Hugo knows what to expect in his arrangement with Sylvia. When she decides it's time for a change, there's nothing he can do but follow along.

Summary
"Why look so horrified? I thought you despised her as much as she loathes you."
"I-- I do," Hugo defends, but it's half-hearted at best. "What Ivy does isn't my business, Sylvia. If she's putting her neck on the line, then--"
"What an interesting phrase that is," Sylvia interrupts again. "You know, Ivy's neck was against something else less than an hour ago today." Warmth blooms in her chest at the memory. "I really don't believe she would have cared if I killed her."
OR: After her conversation with Ivy, Sylvia decides to reveal just how awfully her cousin has been holding up to none other than the person Ivy dislikes most.

Summary
Florian has just turned twenty five, and he has no idea what to do with himself.
It’s been almost a year since Ivy disappeared (ten months, twenty seven days. Florian would know), and yet it feels as though she’s been gone for a lifetime. Someone’s set the sky alight with celebratory fireworks: explosive displays of red and blue and pink against an endless black backdrop. Grating cheers fill the bustling night, each fighting with another to be heard, boastful displays of jubilant togetherness. Displays of fondness, of company, of love.
Alone at a club filled with the clamouring vitality of a hundred sweat-slicked bodies, Florian gulps down another shot.
OR: After Ivy disappears, Florian finds his own ways to cope.

Summary
April had arrived quickly, the trees blossoming pink and white with telltale signs of the seasons changing. Hugo liked spring, finding a bittersweet comfort in everything it represented. New beginnings. New life. Rejuvenation.
Rebirth.
Unfortunately, alongside the positive connotations came the utterly abhorrent beginning. To tell the truth, Hugo would’ve been more than happy to forget April Fools Day ever existed in the first place. He’d expected he would be safe, away from the mansion. (Away from Aaron.) He really should’ve taken into account that Ivy would seize the opportunity to plot so deviously against him.

Summary
It’s experimental, the first time. He wants to– needs to– know what it’s like. He’s tried piano, and talking, and thinking, and family. Nothing seems to reawaken the corpse inside of his body, and Hugo desperately, desperately misses feeling as though he is alive.
(It was not permanent. There has been no change, not really, not beyond the physical inconveniences. He was gone and now he’s back– as though it was just a business trip. He’s still himself. That’s what he tells himself. It sticks like water to glass.)
OR: It's difficult to exist in a body that once was a corpse. Hugo finds ways to cope.

Summary
“Always so formal,” Leroy lamented with a sigh. Hugo bristled at the interruption. “And yet never where it counts. C’mon, kid, where’s the ‘Boss’? ‘Yes, sir’? ‘Aye-aye, Captain’?” He snorted at that one, lips stretching up into a smile. Hugo’s eyes narrowed, his face flushing indignantly. “Look, Hugo, I’m not here to listen to you spew some B-S about professionalism. Quite frankly, I don’t care.”
Hugo blinked at him, his brain blanking in such a way that it became impossible to mask the shock blossoming across his face. “You don’t?”
OR: After throwing coffee at his unprofessional boss, Hugo's certain there'll be a consequence. He just didn't expect Leroy to be so... Casual about it.
