"What the hell Lee!?" were the first words Leonardo's only friend spat out at him, followed by an expected smack to the back of his masked turtle head. "You ghost me for five weeks and when you finally text me back you only send two words!? 'I'm fine'!? Well I'm not fine! What happened!?" Usagi lowered his voice but kept the angry undertone when he crossed his arms, repetitively bounced his large bunny foot on the floor, and stared at the side of Leo's face, accusing: "I didn't know if you were alive or dead!!"

"What do you..." Donnie didn't let Leo finish asking his 'what do you mean by that?' question by interrupting him again, speaking in that same despondent tone of voice: "You try to hide it, but I can see it. So does Mikey and Raph. Maybe even April. I don't know. We never talk about it because you never talk about it."
Leo raised one brow suspiciously, speaking clearly and slowly when he asked: "Hide. What?"
Stopping with his clickety-clacking on the keyboard, Donnie straightened his back but stared ahead at his bright screen instead of turning around to face Leo when he responded with the cutting, thoughtless remark:
"Your life might have ended with the invasion, but mine didn't."

Usagi stepped back, feeling it was disrespectful to get in the middle of a family dispute when the biggest one he figured was Leo's big brother, Raph, ignored the half-hearted introductions to clench his fists and lean his scowling face in closer to Leo's, demanding: "Why'd you take off!? You know you're not supposed to go anywhere alone!"
"I haven't been suicidal for two weeks!" Leo forcefully countered, throwing his arms out in exasperation. He ignored a cat yokai and her parrot yokai friend who were eyeing him on their way into the restaurant, continuing in anger: "I don't even have any privacy when I use the bathroom! It's suffocating! I had to get out of there!"

Book 4 of The Incident

Tears filled the corners of Leo's eyes as he clicked on Raph's number to call his big brother.
The phone rang once.
Twice.
Three times.
A strained sob escaped Leo's mouth from the fearful thought Raph would - once again - not answer his phone. What if no one answered for him? What if he went through all three safe contacts only to be left on his own, stewing in his misery?
"Hey buddy, you okay?"
The tears instantly fell at the reassuring sound of Raphie's voice. All Leo's emotions over this situation he found himself in bubbled up all at once. Leo couldn't stop himself from weeping if he tried, and he was a blubbering mess by the time he stumbled out the strained words:
"I think... sob, hic ...I-think-I-need-help."
