Kanne flops herself over, laying her head on Lawine’s lap and looking up at her. “Will you train with me, then?”
Lawine sniffs, looking away. “If I must. I doubt anyone else would want to.”
She expects retaliation for the insult, but instead, Kanne just cheers before wrapping her arms around Lawine’s torso. Lawine stiffens, instinctively, before belatedly realizing it’s not an attack; it’s affection.
She relaxes into it slowly, her hand finding Kanne’s hair again. They will need every second to train in preparation for the next first-class mage exam, yes, but… Perhaps they can afford just one quiet moment while they are still recovering from this one.
