Summary
Heruwine is a Rider of Rohan and a talented bard who is wounded in the Battle of Pelennor Fields. Tawarien is a humble assistant at the Houses of Healing in Minas Tirith, who fled from her home when her family was lost. Together, they make a life after the War of the Ring.

Tolkientober Day 20: Loneliness
Éothain survives the Battle of Pelennor Fields, but he wishes he had not. He has lost his leg, and he despises the man in the next convalescence room. But then one day, chance comes knocking in the form of Lady Éowyn.

And so Éothain stewed and tossed in his narrow bed, trying not to listen to Heruwine’s voice speak of his favorite things: love, hunting and war, and racing on horseback across the plains.Éothain had no friends here, and so nobody to talk to. War was an ugly thing, while hunting was dull, and love? He might have laughed.

Tolkientober Day 27: Libraries
Heruwine visits the Houses of Lore in Minas Tirith, and meets a knowledgeable librarian. Neither can contain their enthusiasm.
PREVIEW:
Heruwine’s right arm was in a cast, and his left arm supported so many scrolls that they made a pyramid up to his chin.Tawarien, by his side, carried a few dozen more scrolls, though she had the use of both arms.
They placed their acquisitions on the counter at the head of the reading hall, and the librarian looked up stern eyes.
“We only allow scrolls to be used for three hours at a time. I presume you know that?”

Tolkientober Day 13: Relic
Théoden King is in pain, and his caretaker is an added penance.
PREVIEW:
Every day began with pain.It came with every breath, every movement – though he could not move much, being wrapped in a cast from head to toe.
He was still the King of Rohan, but only in name. The reigns had otherwise been passed to Éomer, who by all accounts was doing well, and tried not to trouble his uncle for advice.
Rest. Heal. That was everyone’s directive.
But Théoden King was unused to resting, and there was nothing but pain to occupy his mind.
