"Master," he smiles. "You've returned."
"Yes," the man says.
He doesn't smile, but Ren can see his eye soften, and that is close enough to a smile to make Ren's heart soar.
"Come here," he says, curling a finger.
Ren readily goes over. Once he's within reach, his master hooks a finger into Ren's metal collar and draws him the last step. Ren smiles. He likes when Master wants him close.
"Kneel for me, won't you?" Master asks gently.
"Of course," Ren answers.

He wakes by the base of the throne, wrapped in his favorite blanket. He'd been dreaming. Blue. Laughter. Something else. He can't remember. It must've not been important.
He closes his eyes, then snuggles deeper beneath the blanket.
"Are you awake, little bird?"

Dick had stopped fighting the kneeling. Slade is an egomaniac with enough pride to run a small kingdom. Scratch that. A large kingdom.
If Slade wanted Dick on his knees he was going to get him there, willing or not. There were better ways to spend hiss energy than fighting battles he'd already lost.
It’s just kneeling. It’s not like Dick has any pride left to protect.

Summary
Dick Grayson is returning.
Slade is not quite worried, but he is cautious. His little bird is not the useless thing he was before, the one that would drift off mid conversation, or fall asleep while eating. His mind is sharpening, and his body remembers years of training.
Dick Grayson, hero of the Material Plane, is returning. The only question is, how much of him?
Slade has been meticulous. With every day, every command, every punishment and reward, he has been deepening the conditioning and loyalty, making Renegade's body respond before his mind. With the spell wiping his memories and encouraging compliance, and the haze making it difficult for him to form thoughts, it hasn't been hard to turn Dick into Ren.
He has to test it. How much of Dick Grayson exists in his Renegade. An adventure will be a good way to see how many of the skills, the mannerisms, are back. How much of his work holds.
This is an opportunity. Perhaps soon, Slade can have what he wanted originally: the satisfaction of Dick Grayson, with all intellegence and skill, willingly at his feet.
