However often he slips past IRB approval of his experiments, he still manages to publish his findings without getting into too much trouble in his recurring article "Effective Medicine for the Brain" in the Seireitei Communication magazine. But it's not the IRB he has to worry about when an unknown Shinigami writes a letter to the editor criticizing one of Dr. Kurotsuchi's experiments from a recent article. Immediately upon reading said letter, Kurotsuchi knows he must find out who this so-called "independent researcher" is and put them in their place. Thus begins a tale of scientific rivalry, battling wits, and...unexpected romance?

Four years after Renji's encounter with the aliens and his transfer to his new unit, an off-planet Weyland-Yutani research facility suddenly goes offline. Renji and his unit are prompted into action and accompanied by two Weyland-Yutani scientists to investigate the facility.
