Summary
A few months after leaving the DHV Magellan, Sam settled back into his old life, hoping it would be his well-deserved retirement. Of course, life had a way of messing with his plans, and it happened once again. On a delivery run through the ruins of Edge Knot City, he meets a ghost among the wreckage. Higgs however, appears to have no memories of what he had done, like the past years had been wiped from his mind. Or maybe, he's lying, because he's funny that way.

Higgs was dragging himself slowly after him, forearms slipping on the slick ground, his mech squealing with every failed push.
Sam came to a hesitant stop, watching as Higgs slowly caught up to him. And then, barely audible, “Please… please, please, please…” A quiet chant as he hauled himself up.
Sam couldn’t believe what he was hearing, or seeing. Higgs, the particle of god, kneeling on broken legs, begging, eyes wide and pleading.
“Please, Sam… I’ll deteriorate out here. Like lost cargo.”

My personal take:
That term doesn’t translate perfectly into English, but if you know the Korean “noona” vibe, you get it. That’s the dynamic I’m chasing.
Don’t get it twisted, underneath the sass and the fights, I adore him. This fic isn’t just cruelty and chaos; it’s also about giving this brat the affection he craves. He will be loved, entirely and without apology!!
And yes, "Lane is sexist..."
That’s part of why he fascinates me. It’s not about “fixing” him, I don’t see people as broken dolls to repair. It’s about clashing with him, calling his bluff, and watching sparks fly when someone finally puts him in his place!
This is messy. This is toxic. This is dog-bite-dog territory.

Higgs is starring in his dreams more often than not and bringing all Sam's past trauma with him. That's kinda a problem.

Glassveil is a young woman, originally by the name Eleanor "Elle" Veil, who was orphaned at 6 years old after a voidout killed both her parents and destroyed their prepper bunker. Homless and alone, she wandered between cities looking for someone to help her, living off of scraps of food she was able to steal or find in discarded cargo pods.
Eventually she was picked up by a man and his 12 year old daughter, Fragile, when she collapsed at the gates of Port Knot City. He raised her as his own daughter alongside Fragile, who had always longed for a sister, and the two became inseparable.
When their father died, Fragile continued to run Fragile express, with Elle becoming the company's best porter. In time Fragile decided she needed another porter to work alongside Elle as she took on more challenging deliveries, and she received great interest from a fledgling delivery company, run by one Higgs Monaghan - no stranger to portering, he wanted to work with Fragile, and was eager to learn from her and her company.
Little did Fragile know, this was the start of a tragic romance for the ages.
(There are tweaks to the canon story here, so please don't expect this to be SUPER loyal to the game)

This is my version of how things should have gone in DS2. Higgs didn't die on the Beach and found a way out, regaining his powers. He is not a lackey for somebody else, but is doing his own thing. he saw all the info on Lou on the Beach and decided to raise her to be his own personal Extinction Entity that he could use to threaten the world into submission and finally achieve his dream of ruling. But things never go as planned. Eventually, Sam/Higgs.
