Summary
Cashmere and Gloss, the popular back to back sibling Victors, do not like the Capitol. Neither do Enobaria and Brutus, the famous deadly District 2 Victors. All they ever do is suffer at the hands of the Capitol. However, while the other districts plot the downfall of the Capitol during the 3rd Quarter Quell, or the Annual 75th Hunger Games, the Careers are not invited to help destroy their tormentors. And after the fall of the arena, the war, and the fall of the Capitol, only one of the four Quell Careers is left to share their story.

There was a large Capitol gathering during the spring leading up to the 74th Annual Hunger Games, thrown by none other than the President of Panem himself, to congratulate some wealthy sponsor family or another for the graduation of their granddaughter or something along those lines. To be honest, none of the Victors had noted exactly why the party was being thrown, just that they were stuck attending by order of the President, and none of them were too keen to disobey Coriolanus Snow.
(The mentors are invited to a party during the off season of the games, allowing them to see one another outside of the tense environment of the Mentor's Room. They use the party as a way to steal some little moments where they can be with their friends without watching as their tributes slaughter each other.)

Summary
Kendria Parstons has never been a normal District 7 girl. After losing her mother at the age of four, and being forced to take up the mantle of a role model for her younger siblings at a young age, she has layers of hurt and sorrow behind her seemingly happy eyes. She becomes the most important figure in her sibling life, forced to quit school and work in lumber yard to earn a living to support her family at the age of 12. When her brother falls sick, her family sinks into the brink of poverty, and a girl she calls her sister gets reaped, It's a no brainer.

The question of whether she will be getting back in a wooden box or by train in a sparkly new capitol outfit, is solely up to her.

"Do you want a sugar cube? They aren't meant to eat, but there's so very little for me to be happy about nowadays." I shrug, popping a cube in my mouth and offering one to him.
"It's nice." He says after a few seconds of sucking on the cube silently.
"My mom used to say sugar eases all pains. That was when we could afford sugar, that is," I say softly, thinking about my sweet mother and the very few memories of her that I have.

Summary
This world is easy for her, with her ax. When she's bored she swings it and pretends she’s fighting monsters or protecting a princess. When she is angry she grabs the ax and chops logs; as she swings and swings and swings she can pretend it is not wood she’s cutting, but some physical form of what it is that’s making her rage. When she’s nine, she imagines her annoying classmate Lawrence Simmons’ face on the log, and the log after that, and by evening her parents are pleased at how much work she’s done.
When she’s ten, she pretends it’s a peacekeeper’s head she’s chopping, and sometimes it’s President Snow’s: it’s at the age of ten what she realizes 'killing game' means, and that once someone is dead, they don’t come back.
