Summary
Mina Gaspari and Bucky Barnes fell in love before World War II started, but then the fighting started and Bucky had to leave. Mina joined Steve in the army and fought alongside him, saving Bucky from HYDRA. Then Bucky fell from a train and Mina soldiered on, needing to finish what he had started. When Steve crashed Red Skull's plane into the Arctic Mina was with him, both of them lost to the world.
Woken up nearly seventy years later the two friends lean on one another to help them through the change. Then the impossible happened, and they learned that Bucky was alive, and not only that, but he is being controlled by the same organization they thought they had destroyed. Can the two of them rescue their friend or are they simply out of time?

N.B. I originally wrote this in 2014. Then I rewrote it again in 2019. Now I'm doing it again in 2025. But I've not seen anything past Endgame Part 1 because I lost interest. I just want to finish this, because I keep starting a rewrite then I give up. Sorry if the timeline isn't always in line with the films/tv shows, but I worked in comic lore too and that doesn't always match up with the MCU anyway.

Bucky has mixed feelings about Captain America. It’s a facade, really. The man in front of him looks like his Stevie, blue eyes brightening as they take him in, the familiar quirk of his lips. His face is fuller, no longer haunted by even the slightest breeze, no more bags under his eyes or the sickly pale skin. His body is bigger, he’s taller. Muscle is corded around his arms which were once as thick as a sapling. Bucky has loved Steve in every form, when they were kids, when he was caring for him during the long Brooklyn winters when he wasn’t sure if Steve was going to take another breath, when they moved into their own apartment together. Bucky has loved every part of him, his stubborn, cunning and beautiful Stevie. And he continues to love Steve.
