The room is dim, tinted with early morning gray-blue. His brain is foggy, but his body’s too wired to sink back under. Typical.
For a few seconds, he just lies there. Blinking slowly. Staring at the ceiling like it personally offended him. Over the leaf blower, Connor can hear noise coming from downstairs. Muted voices. The coffee grinder. The sound of a pan being tossed into the sink. It’s all too familiar. Things he thought he wouldn’t have to hear again.But no, Trust him to screw up something as simple as dying. Couldn’t even do that right.

“You’re siblings!” Cynthia spread her arms out with her peppy, upbeat voice used especially to convince them that something was worth their energy. “My siblings drove around with me all the time for chores my parents gave, this is- it’s good bonding. You two need to talk more.”
Zoe looked back at Connor on the staircase. They didn’t look angry or really even had a sense of mutual connection of hating the thought. They stiffened, awkward, eyebrows both pinched and hesitant.
“...We don’t do that,” Zoe said. She made sure to look back to Cynthia when she said it. Connor agreed.

He rubs his thumb over the lighter’s peeling red paint, tracing the chipped edges. It feels rough in some places, and smooth in others. Like the patterned wrapper had been beaten up over the years, used so much it finally gave up and faded to plain metal. He wonders briefly how many times his dad used it. How many times he almost tossed it. How many times he ignored it until it was just another tool in a pile of forgotten crap. How many times someone thought it might blow up and they’d have to dump it. Classic. Ignore something until it stops working, then blame it for breaking.

He catches her lips with his own, and his mind turns off. All he can think of is Annabeth, and she is everywhere, her lips on his, her hands on his chest, his neck, her curls brushing against his arm. The kiss is slow, it always is with them. He lets her take what she needs from him.
Tonight, she wants distraction. He would be lying if he said a part of him didn’t wonder if this was all he was to her? He thinks he knows the answer though, so he doesn’t like to think about that particular question too hard.

He chuckled. “Oh, that won’t be necessary. I’m sure you remember Captain Cormac?”
Haytham had to stop himself from laughing when Connor flinched as Shay suddenly appeared next to him, having sneaked up on the other man on silent feet. “Shay Cormac.” Connor said, already reaching for one of his daggers.
Shay only lifted an unimpressed eyebrow at that, smiling mildly. “I see that Achilles has told you his side of the story already.”Shay returns during the events of Assassin's Creed III, soon after Haytham and Connor decide to work together. He's not amused that Haytham's son is so determined to kill him. So he and Haytham make a plan to prevent just that and maybe even convince Connor that an alliance between Templars and Assassins might be useful, after all.
