“What are you afraid of?” You ask, the question finally tumbling out of your mouth. Your teasing tone that was present during your little back-and-forth is gone now, same with his amused look.
He let out a long breath of air from his nose before running his tongue across his teeth. You watch him consider silently for a moment, feeling a soft expression pull at your lips when you think he’s finally going to open up—
“Dolphins,” he smirks, and you let out a scoff. Before you can even pry for more, he swings his foot in your direction, splashing water on your lower half.
“You’re a dick–!” You laugh, and your tone is anything but malicious. You’re sure Dodge has been called a dick before; you’re sure he’s been called coldhearted and stoic…
You don’t see any of that as he sits beside you, a stupid, pleased smirk on his face and that damn challenge in his blue eyes, which only appear more blue in the dim pool light.

(Set post-canon/after Panic...starting around a month after the finale episode. My one-shot "Love Is Patient, Love Is Kind" is the prequel to this if you'd like to read it. But doing so is *not* necessary to enjoy this fic!)
Heather finds out her mom is pregnant again, this time by that jerk Bo, and their already strained relationship all but crumbles. Fortunately, she and Lily have a good support system and she finds comfort with her friends and (of course!) Ray, as well as in her writing. Though she doesn't understand why (or where) it all went so wrong, she tries to remain hopeful that eventually, she and her little sister will not only reconcile with their mother, but finally get to experience life as a (semi?) normal family … because is that *really* SO much for a girl to ask???!!!
a.k.a. lots of Ray x Heather (and Lilybug) fluff and a generous helping of family drama; there is also a Dodge x Natalie storyline but it's more background and kind of woven throughout

“That’s not why I brought you out here, sweetheart” He says panting, as Heather continues kissing down his jaw, and neck. Now that they were alone together she couldn’t keep her hands, or mouth, off him.
“Oh yeah? Why then?” Heather asks between kisses.
“Do you wanna do a song with me?” He pauses. Heather stared up at him, speechless. He continues quickly “I just can’t be in the same room with you and pretend I don’t want to be kissing you" -
