We (GaHoolianGirl and strangesaturday) decided to try and experiment with the collaboration formula- we wrote messages from the respective perspectives of Data and Geordi sending them to each other, sharing them only once they were done just like our boys would have.

Summary
Nights on Solelara were almost always pleasantly warm, and that combined with the glow of the dark lavender bark and teal leaves of the planet’s bioluminescent trees made their small camp fire more of a prop to set the ambience than a necessity, but Geordi didn’t mind so much- it wasn’t about the heat or the light (not that he’d even need the illumination with his VISOR in any circumstance), it was about sitting by the fire with those you cared about, at least to him.
And right now there was nowhere he’d rather be than sitting on a long dead log that had lost it’s glow next to a useless fire, pressed up against Data’s side, who was doing his best to maintain the meager flames. The planet’s wood was not particularly flammable, so they had to use their own fuel, and without the aid of replicators they had to ration it out.
...well, they didn’t have to, of course, but Geordi had mentioned camp fires as a necessary part of the experience, and therefore Data was determined to have it no matter the circumstances.
Daforge goes camping.

Geordi smiled, adjusting the collar of the waistcoat he wore before reaching out to do the same for Data’s housecoat, smoothing his hands over the android’s chest, in both comfort and appreciation, “That’s sweet of you, Data. Alright- you have my consent, explicitly and enthusiastically. Now let’s get in there so you can sweep me off my feet.”
Data wouldn’t call it a smile, but there was nothing else the look on his face as he started the program could really be.

Data knew where this was going.
There was no hesitation when he stepped forward.

“I... I...” why am I at a loss for words talking to someone who can’t even hear me? “Data, I- There are some things I need to say. While you’re still- I need to say them now.”
“I love you, Data. Yes, like a friend. You’re first and foremost my best friend, and what I’m going to say won’t change that in the slightest,” he emphasized his last sentence, unsure of why he was being so careful in his word choice. Maybe I just want it to feel like he can hear me... He gripped the edge of the table, focusing on the cool metal against his hands, “But I love you in a different way, too.”
Some alien tech renders Data paralyzed; alive, but unable to move or respond to anything. Afraid he'll never have another chance, Geordi confesses his feelings to him in that state. But it turns out Data can hear him, and once he recovers, has an answer to give.

“I will be standing up and sitting on the edge of the bed,” he described his actions as he took them, something Geordi was grateful for. The ever thoughtful Data. Just as promised, the bed dipped slightly under Data’s weight, “I will be touching my fingers to your temples, and massaging them. Please inform me if it becomes painful or uncomfortable.”
“Will doooooooooooooooooooooh-” all the air rushed out of Geordi’s lungs in a long breath. The pressure Data applied was, of course, just the right amount of strength, sending an instant wave of relief through the engineer’s system, “Right there, oh yeah, Data.”
His friend could deny it until the cows came home to roost, but there was an undeniable note of pride in his voice as he spoke, “It is working, Geordi?”
An encounter with an alien knocks Geordi unconscious, and when he wakes up, he has a splitting headache and can't use his VISOR. Data helps.

If he were to no longer be part of my life, I would survive, but there would be countless subroutines I would have to rewrite, so in essence, I would no longer be the same person. So Geordi does not only make me happy, he is integral to what I define as happiness for myself. As for if Geordi is happy, I cannot say so for certain. Geordi and Data, along with their adopted son Harper, visit Geordi's sister, niece, and father, and just have a nice day together as a family.

Data must grapple with his new awareness of these mental states, adding to a program he has been writing to evoke human-style emotional responses as he interprets their meanings over time.
The alternative universe crew of the Enterprise provides ample opportunity for Data to explore his feelings in general, and about his best friend in particular.
