Summary
Violet Sorrengail was born in chains.

Xaden Riorson has finally proven everyone wrong. In his third and final year at Basgiath, he has risen to the rank of Wingleader, he is bonded to an exceptionally powerful dragon, and he has one of the most feared signets in the quadrant. While he'd love to burn this place down, it's the only chance for survival-for him, and the other marked ones. But then Violet Sorrengail arrives, the youngest child of one of his greatest enemies. He's convinced she's here to ruin him. But Xaden must also fight against his inexplicable attraction to her, one he very much doesn't want but can't seem to escape.
This is a retelling of Fourth Wing from Xaden's POV, following along with each chapter. I've added new scenes with Xaden, Garrick, Bodhi, Imogen, and Liam. This was written PRE-Iron Flame, and all new scenes and internal thoughts of Xaden are my own theories and speculation. There are spoilers for FW throughout, including from the beginning.
Post-IF update: I've decided to NOT edit this work based on what we learn in IF. I think it gives too much away of the plot of IF to do that, and I love the fanfic I imagined. I may update certain scenes in standalone one-offs.

He doesn’t know why she’s here, what her plans are, or if he can trust her. All he knows is that he can’t seem to stay away.This is Fourth Wing retold from Xaden’s POV. It follows the dialogue and timeline from Fourth Wing with my own interpretations and theories of Xaden’s actions and feelings. As it was written before the release of Iron Flame, all ideas and theories are just that – theories. Many elements are my own head cannons/speculation and are unconfirmed by Rebecca Yarros.
I would recommend reading Fourth Wing first as there are major plot spoilers throughout!

This follows the dialogue and events of Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing, retold from Xaden’s perspective. When Violet returns from a trip to visit her mom and walks in on her boyfriend of three years cheating, she suddenly finds herself searching for a new home. Enter her best friend's boyfriend's old roommates and the still-empty bedroom in their apartment. After an awkward meeting at the bar, where she manages to insult the one most opposed to a new roommate, they decide to give it a chance. Except now she can't escape her annoying(ly hot) roommate.
When Xaden's roommate and best friend moved in with his girlfriend of 2 years, he thought the empty bedroom would stay empty. It's not like they need help with the rent. Then she tells them about her best friend, who was recently cheated on, going through his own breakup; he feels enough camaraderie to agree to meet her. After getting scolded in his own bar by the most beautiful woman he's ever seen, he agrees more readily than any of his roommates would expect. Now his apartment smells like flowers, his dog won't sleep in his room anymore, and his roommates won't stop giving him shit.
