Between the greedy madman who thought too highly of himself (and was not even that handsome) and the other, who would gladly have exchanged his own mind for that of one of his eagles, she had little choice.

As for my other boy, we know that he had lost his heart to one that passed on, leaving no children. Besides, his hair is too dark.”
“Irissë only had Lómion, thank Eru that man hadn’t defiled her further.” Fingolfin spoke, thoughtfully holding his chin. “Elenwë passed on the Grinding Ice, and as fond as he is of my mother, Turgon vowed to never take another bride. He cannot be his. My dearest little Argon died before he ever wed. That leaves Fingon, but, of course, he was never wed.”

It would be with him as he sat and watched the fire burn to cold ashes, as his father rose and left for the day, not thinking that his only son was still in his rooms and had not run out after having a piece of sweet bread spread with jam and butter, going forth to learn all that he could from the day.
Fëanor sat there and thought and thought and thought as day turned to night and then back to day. And, by the time his father came knocking on his door, a worried frown on his face, Fëanor still had no idea what he was going to do. But he knew that he would have to do something. This time he would be patient. This time he would listen. This time...this time...
This time he would get it right. And he would not lose anyone else, ever again.
