Summary
It’s not like it was his brother’s fault– of course it wasn’t Sae’s fault, not the first time that petal sat in a splatter of blood in their sink and not the last time. How could it be because of him?
Itoshi Rin centric and POV angst. Rin develops (familial) Hanahaki after Sae leaves for Spain, an exploration of his perspective on life and relationship with others. Both pre-Blue Lock to during Blue Lock. (Also keep in mind that this IS Rin's perspective, and he is a somewhat unreliable narrator. Sae's actions and words will seem more harsh and cruel as it's RIN who's interpreting them.)

Anri stepped in gently, her own eyes shimmering as she reached for Rin. “Sweetheart… it’s time. We have to let him go.”
Rin screamed. Screamed.
“No! No, no, no! Don’t take him! Don’t take Nii-chan!” His little arms clung to Sae’s legs, body wracked with sobs so violent it looked like he couldn’t breathe. “Please—please—please don’t go—!”
Sae stood frozen, tears streaking down his cheeks as he looked down at Rin, who was now on his knees, clinging to him like a lifeline.
“I love you, Rin,” Sae whispered, voice broken beyond repair. “So much. I’ll come back. I’ll come back for you, I swear. You’ll be okay. I promise.”
Anri had to gently, painfully pry Rin away—his arms flailing, cries echoing through the hallway. She held him against her chest, whispering soft apologies through her own tears as he fought to run back, screaming for his brother. But Sae had to go.
So why did it take 19 years to return?

After returning from Spain with mental wounds and a failed soccer career, Sae goes to university to major in figuring out what the hell he's supposed to do now. In his introductory writing class, he meets and befriends a bizarre guy doing the exact same thing.
There is immediately something between them. But it's not that simple. Sae is drowning in everything that happened in Spain. He can't even think about it, let alone talk about it.
