Summary
Eyes closed, Chiron breathed in and savored the taste of them in his mouth. The clean sweat of their skin, damp from lovemaking, touched with the slightly bitter tang of each other’s most intimate places, mixed with the aromatics from the Tom Ford colognes they both preferred. Peppermint and almond, soap and sex, fruit and funk, grounded in the sweetness of love that had matured from teenage hopes into grown-folks goodness. It was all there in the kiss, a musky, mingled reminder of everything he called home.
A laugh...a look...a life. Somebody who knew you needed a haircut and cared enough to cook you your favorite meal. The smile on each other's face and the warm familiarity of their bodies pressed together.

Summary
Once they're draped in towels and huddled together, Kevin nudges Chiron. "Hey."
"Hey," he replies.
"That was fun, right? That was a good time?"
Chiron takes a long breath, then nods. "Yeah." Despite the cold, there's a slow simmer in his chest. "Yeah," he repeats as an afterthought.
Kevin leans his head against Chiron's. "Yeah," he agrees.

Summary
They are settled on a couch, but Chiron might as well be in the middle of the Atlantic, so far is he from the life he had when he woke up this morning. Kevin soothes him; fingers lightly against his neck, smoothing the corded tendons there, then moving up to his temple...the hand that drew teenage passion and blood from him rests on Chiron’s skull like a blessing now from a god he cannot name. ...If he had the strength, he would stand, but it feels as if his bones are dissolving under the sensation of Kevin's hand. Kevin is knitting him together even as his touch takes him apart.

Paula sees the wheels in her son's head turn. She's been relearning what that looks like. "Baby, what's wrong?"
Chiron looks at her. His eyes drift as he selects his words. "Nothing's wrong, I..." A moment passes, and he closes the gap between his lips, forming a hint of a nervous smile. "There's someone I want you to meet," he says.

Then the screen door slightly open, her dad laughing his same generous laugh. “Come on, man,” he said, and that was all good and daily but there was an undaily occurrence squatted there on the porch. And he was big, too.
