It feels like she prays ceaselessly. For her husband, sometimes so close to her and other times so far she wonders how to reach them, for their son, gone before his time, and the one that grows in her belly, more each day. Sometimes there are words; requests for health and long life and an easy delivery, repeated until the words have lost their meaning. Other times she weeps so pitifully and endlessly that her husband interrupts her, gently wresting her votive from her hands and pulling her to him.
