Duncan, a fellow railway contractor, had been nicknamed 'Railway King' due to how fast his railways are popping up, and stretching across Britain. When Duncan's name suddenly began circling the press; Macbeth, overcome with greed, began using cheap materials and foreign labour to expedite his projects and take Duncan's title.

He has no spur to prick the sides of his intent, but only vaulting ambition, which o’erleaps itself and falls on th’ other.
