Summary
It's been three years since John "Soap" MacTavish avenged the murder of his friend and Vanguard, Phillip Graves. Three years since he put a bullet between Simon Riley's eyes. But nothing stays buried out on the Tangled Shore - not even the dead. A new threat has Soap working alongside the mysterious freelancer named Ghost who wears a familiar face beneath his mask.
It's been three years since Ghost woke up with no memories and a face that gets him shot on sight. Alone and hunted in a world he doesn't understand, he accepts crime lord Roba's offer of sanctuary without question. Now, he's suffering for that trust beneath a debt he can't hope to repay. His one way out might just be the loud-mouthed sergeant who seems dead set on breaking down his walls - but as with all things, freedom will come at a price.

Yes, Ghost wants to say. He has so much feeling in them. They’re a part of his body, even if he wasn’t born with them on his head. Yes, he wants to say, because you’re touching them with your gentle fingers and it’s making me fucking crazy! You have no idea.
“No,” he says instead, his voice tight.
Or, Ghost has horns and Soap likes to touch them.

“You would really wish for me to marry again?” he asked in a terribly small voice. He would only have asked her this, for she too wore a wedding dress with the expectation of every awful thing that came with it. He wouldn’t have dared to utter such insecurities at the feet of the King, but here he allowed himself to feel like a child begging not to be sent away.
She did not answer for a long while, and when she did it was with a great sigh of sorrow.
“Yes, my sweet thing.”
Simon’s chest felt tight at her voice, but still, he continued, “I am damaged,” he told her like that would be his God-given sanctuary. “If you wish for a virgin then I’d suggest a church, but I am a whore,” he spat the word with all the vile vitriol that’d been thrown at his feet over his lifetime, “and you will have nothing from my body. I’ve made it so that no man can ever fucking touch me, your bastard son included.”

Ghost has been wed to the Prince of the West after his nation is conquered. They had wanted King Roba, Ghost's late husband, to answer for crimes across the sea. Instead, they are left with the nation's icy Black Queen in his stead. The only way to survive is an alliance neither wanted.

Riley is staring him down, a lesser man would have crumbled under such a gaze, but Price just crosses his arms and leans against the far wall.
“You look pretty alive for a dead man,” he says into the silence of the room, and Riley does not visibly react besides the involuntary twitch of his eye.
“Simon Riley, correct? My name is Captain John Price, but you can call me Price.”

Price goes to find a dead man.
This takes place right after Ghost takes out Roba’s cartel.

Ghost was aware of the effect Soap had on him. Even though Ghost had buried Simon 12 feet deep, Soap dug down anyway. Inch by inch, every interaction, every smile, had chipped away at Ghost’s resolve. It was only a matter of time until he laid bare, not as a Ghost, but as Simon. He just really didn’t think it would happen like that.
Or, Ghost is left to deal with the emotional turmoil from Shepard's latest betrayal. When unwanted memories rear their head and affect his work, Ghost tries desperately to get them to stop. Will he be able to keep it together before everything falls apart?
