Summary
There was a calm that came with it, the kind he preferred before a night hunt. The soft rustle of cloth, the muted clink of metal, the practiced efficiency of motion. He checked each item with dedication, hands steady, eyes sharp. His survival was his own responsibility and no else’s. He would be moving with his peers but no one took responsibility for others.
He stuffed everything in his Qainkun bag, lastly, picking up the clan flare that he had endured never to use, and put it in an inner pocket.
Outside, he could hear distant voices from the training grounds, fading footsteps in the corridors, the quiet murmur of a world still going about its day.
Once everything was secured, he paused. A final glance over his shoulder, making sure nothing was left behind. Then he reached for his outer robe, shrugged it on, and tied the sash with a familiar tug.

Summary
Jiang Fengmian and Yu Ziyuan's marriage was not a loving one, no matter how much they tried to make it appear amicable. In fact, if you saw the two interact, you would swear they were mortal enemies. Despite their differences however, Yu Ziyuan had hoped that her husband would, at the very least, try to put some effort into loving their children as his own, even if he didn't love her. That hope was unfortunately squashed when her husband brought home a dirt covered brat, who he held with a care that he had never shown to his own son or daughter.
Outraged at her husband's boldness to treat someone else's son better than his own children, within his own home to boot, Yu Ziyuan takes a page from her husband's book, and goes out on her own to bring home the son of someone else. As a result, their already deteriorating marriage becomes even worse. Their anger and hatred towards each other becomes so strong that it begins to affect not only the people within Lotus Pier, but also their relationship with their two biological children....

Tutto quello che avreste sempre voluto sapere su Zǐdiàn ma non avete mai osato chiedere.
La mia traduzione del primo capitolo (in realtà può stare da solo) di un sequel (novel canon) Cheng/Qing che ho scritto in Inglese (https://archiveofourown.org/works/34595632).
In realtà la mancanza del neutro in Italiano è una sciagura. In inglese il pronome per Zǐdiàn è it. Lasciando spazio ad un gioco di ambivalenze che diventa intraducibile. Purtroppo il determinismo di genere è insuperabile. Il cervello codifica automaticamente come maschio il maschile, e come femmina il femminile. Il neutro in italiano usa la forma maschile, ma alla fine ho preferito il femminile (she for he): tutto sommato Zǐdiàn è una frusta, che in Italiano è femminile come lo è la nave.
