Summary
“Did you know Horne is dating Greg Davies?” Tim asks bluntly.
There’s a pause at the other end of the line. Then Mark says, sounding confused, “I- yes? That is to say, I did know that, and so do you. We went camping with them last month. Are you feeling alright, Tim?”
“No, I’m not fucking ‘feeling alright’,” Tim snaps. “I wake up to find out that my best mate has apparently been sticking his boy in another bloke behind my back, so excuse me that I’m not besides myself with joy here.”
There’s another pause. Eventually, Mark clears his throat. “Is this- sorry, are you being homophobic?”
Or:
Tim dies taking a bullet for Alex, and if he had the time to make his final joke, he would have said he predicted this two years ago on Kathy Burke's podcast. What he didn't predict is that he'd wake up - in a world where Alex is dating Greg Davies.

Summary
Greg is getting irritated again. “I know I’m not one of Alex’s fifty closest friends, but that doesn’t mean I don’t care."
“Did he tell you that?” Tim asks. "That you’re not one of his five hundred closest friends or whatever?"
“I said fifty,” Greg says. “Now I’m thinking it’s five hundred and I feel even worse.”

Summary
He glanced down at his phone. “What is this?”
“What’s it look like?” Alex asked, which, well, Tim supposed he could take a somewhat-educated guess from the bag of bird food.
But he certainly wasn’t going to give Alex the satisfaction.
Instead, he looked down at the tube and pulled a face. “Bit big for me to put my boy in, but I’ll give it a go.”

Summary
Maybe it was the fact that they’d spent 10 years now doing this, or maybe just because he now had Christmas and everything that went with it on his mind, but he told Alex, honestly, “This is the worst part of the series.”
“The wrap party?” Alex asked, surprised.
Greg shook his head. “No,” he said, feeling like a prize idiot. “Having to say goodbye.”
There was a flicker of something familiar in Alex’s expression, as if he was immediately thinking of the joke he could make as Greg’s expense, but then his face softened. “Funny,” he said, though there wasn’t any amusement in his voice. “I was about to say it was my favourite part. Because we get to spend some time together like this.”

Summary
Greg recognises something in Tim Key. An ache he's all too familiar with. Leveraging his new found intimacy with Alex, he gives the boys the little push they need to finally see each other in a new light. And if he gets to come along for the ride as well, he's hardly going to complain.
An alternate ending of One Good Turn, but can be read as a stand alone.

They never seemed to quite click. It wasn’t personal, he had reasoned.
But something had lit a fire under Alex recently it seemed. He’d been at Greg every night to agree to come with on a holiday. And so here he now found himself, sitting in his car, in the middle of a field in god knows where, watching Tim Fucking Key laughing at Alex as he stumbled over tent poles.

Summary
Alex is a little tipsy and can't resist when Tim sets him up perfectly for the well-worn joke. Or at least Alex thinks it's a joke. For Tim it just cements the idea that Alex is fed up with him. He doesn't realise he's not the only one in this relationship who's struggled with the whole business of government-enforced seperation.
Or: Tim gets the wrong impression, thinks Alex is breaking up with him, and then Alex does his very best to prove him wrong.

Summary
It was, in an odd way, a bit like a task, where Alex couldn’t stop the timer until it had been completed. Or, more accurately, couldn’t move on from the day until it’d been completed. Which meant there was something he had to be missing, something he was meant to do but hadn’t.
Of course, if it had been a task, he’d’ve stopped the clock and let Greg deal with the inevitable disqualification in the studio. It was funnier that way, usually, though Alex did find he had a new appreciation for the contestants who thought they’d nailed it only to have to turn around and defend themselves.
It was certainly less funny in his circumstance.
