Summary
Sans immediately knows something is different about Frisk, the second he sees them. He also knows they are going to cause him nothing but trouble. He finds he doesn't really care, because he's never felt the way he feels when he sees them before, and because against all odds, they are the kindest creature he's ever met.
Frisk is desperate to free themself and their friends both from the resets they inadvertently cause and from the barrier. They find an unlikely companion in Sans, and together they try to find some way to let Frisk survive while still doing the right thing. It is all complicated by the feelings that start growing between them.

They killed as many monsters as they spared and disappeared through the Barrier, leaving the monsters with no hope of escaping and only their vengeance to fall back on. The Queen is exiled back to the Ruins, accompanied by her grieving friend hiding a secret from her. The Empress seeks revenge. Dr Alphys disappears into her lab and never returns.
Six years later Frisk returns to the Underground, haunted by dreams of the earth splitting in two and pillars of darkness.

- Um guys I wrote this cause I'm obsessed with the episode Nevermore from Teen Titans. Uh anyway. This fic is, like 75% comedy 25% feelings. I'm an ace trans man who relates too much to Underlust Mettaton, so I had to write this because none of you understand my vision!!!!! (That I have never said anywhere ever...)

I woke up one day and said to myself, "Self, there just aren't enough Undertale AUs out there. You should create one." So I did.
Hopefully things will still be more or less recognizable in this one, since I'm sticking relatively close to the canon plot. Well, kind of. I'm keeping the part where Frisk falls down a hole, wanders through the Underground (now the Underdark) one zone at a time, and eventually fights Asgore. That's pretty similar.

They always felt close with Frisk. When you shared a body it was kind of hard not to. They were their best friend. The two of them knew just about everything about each other.
Sometimes, though, ‘best friend’ just didn’t feel right. It didn’t feel like enough. They’d never felt this way about Asriel. Or anyone else for that matter. It was weird. They’d heard people talk about crushes, and all that mushy shit, but they knew that didn’t feel right at all either.
But they knew one thing. They knew they cared about Frisk. They cared about them more than anyone else. And maybe that was all that mattered. Maybe they didn’t need to think about it any more than that.

Gaster’s life had been a simple one, built around a routine he found comfortable and familiar. Five days out of the week, he taught physics at the university where he worked, spending his lunch break with his two sons, both students at the same university. Each morning, he stopped by the coffee shop on campus for his morning coffee, spending a little more time there on weekends to work on his latest book. It wasn’t the most exciting routine, but he found it safe, familiar, it was his life.
So when the university hires a new groundskeeper who basically wreck his safe routine…what’s he to make of him? It doesn't help that his appearance seems to have triggered a domino effect that just takes Gaster's life off the rails. This professor needs a nap damnit, he's too old for this.

They soon discover that the Underground is shrouded in a dark energy that has twisted monsters into violent and hateful beings.
Feeling empathy for monsterkind, they think that their new powers may hold the key to changing the fate of this broken world.However, Frisk must confront a difficult question... how much of themselves are they willing to sacrifice to become the hero they’ve always longed to be?

I watched as Azzy staggered his way back up Mt. Ebott and dying in the throne room, as he likely left nothing but dust, pollen, and trauma for a generation of monsters.

And why am I all the way at the beginning of the Ruins, a day's journey away from the place that we had died?Chara is reawoken as the final human falls into the underground, and is justifiably very confused.

Ever since he can remember, Asgore has had a purpose. As King of the monsters, it has always been his job to ensure his people have hope for the future—before and during their banishment.
But now, their exile is over. The monsters are free. They must now adapt to life on the surface world and find a new purpose. Toriel is fighting to become Frisk’s mother in the eyes of the law. Papyrus is discovering a new love. Undyne is doubling her efforts to protect those she loves. Alphys is finding a place among the scientists. Mettaton is asserting himself in the television industry.
And all Asgore can do is fall behind.
What use is he if there is no longer a need for hope? All that’s left are the sins he’s committed and the mistakes he’s made. He doesn’t deserve happiness. He doesn’t deserve forgiveness. He only deserves to take full responsibility for what he’s done.
Maybe it’s about time he did that.
