And with it so soon being a year since our freedom, a…celebration, of sorts, has been proposed. There is so much Surface that so many monsters have never seen. And now that we are no longer contained, we have thought that perhaps the best way to celebrate this would be for monsterkind to leave the mountain, for a while. See everything that has been kept from us for so long.”
Chara goes tense-kinda in their mind. But Frisk only sort of notices ‘cause they’re putting Momma’s words together, and jumping up to their feet, and shrieking, ‘cause they got practice from all the singing, “ROAD TRIP??”
Momma laughs. “Yes, Frisk. Sort of like a very big road trip.”
(Frisk, Chara, and Flowey go on a road trip across the country, and Frisk is determined to ensure Chara enjoys the trip, no matter how distant their brainfriend might be.)

The streets are rough this time around in Ebbot. Winter has never been easy. However, this year, just looking for food or asking for spare change became a lot more difficult. There was already snow on the ground before halloween even came around the corner. It was going to be a white Christmas for sure.
Although. You don't think you will get to see it.
Your body was running on fumes. And you knew it. You could barely walk down the alley to get to you make shift home in that abandoned building. You face plant onto the frosty ground. Too tired to try and get back up again.
Your brain was pounding against your skull. A silent threat of smashing it in order to touch the cold snow on your face. You move your face up, ever so slightly to breathe the air. God it hurt your lungs. The winter air, snapping the back of your throat with a scratchy feeling. Before, death was welcoming, however; Not now. You did not want to go back Underground to face Sans in that hall.
Not again.
So you did the one thing, you never thought you would do.
You call for help.

Hm. Well, whatever being was holding control over Chara’s mind, it must have been doing to the same to this human’s body. If they reset now, this human wouldn’t be under the control of that entity anymore. If they reset, Chara could guide them to Asgore! The monsters already have six souls, right? It seemed most monsters were hunting for the last human anyway, so it wouldn’t be too hard to find one competent enough to bring the soul to Asgore.
Even if they’d never be alive enough to truly enjoy it, even if no one would know they helped, Chara had to make it up to monsterkind. They’ve suffered so much at Chara’s hand, it’s time for Chara to finally repent. They would fix it. They had to.
For Mom, for Dad,
For Asriel.
“Greetings, Human. I am Chara,” they said, “and I think we are going to be best friends.”

Basically, post-geno route Chara takes the red soul and defeats the player, then resets to try and not get anyone killed this time.

Summary
Chara is completely fine with watching their world come to ruin over and over again. Even if those are the people they loved dying over and over again. Even if that is their mother sobbing as her body fades away, or their father not even being allowed his last words, or the vestiges of their dead brother sobbing as he is crushed into nothing.
It is their job to narrate, after all. Even if this pathological facade of theirs is unnatural, it would be improper of them to let their true feelings through, wouldn't it?
or,
Chara gets tired of watching everyone they've ever cared about die, punctuated with Icarus metaphors stretched further than the original myth allows (and a reference to a GHOST and Pals song, because I could not resist).
