Summary
About 30 minutes later he can hear the alarm going off from their room and the grumbling of Robby as Dennis quickly turns it off. Moments later the younger man comes shuffling out wrapped in a blanket hair sticking up at odd angles. “G’morning,” he mumbles sleepily.
Jack looks up and smiles patting the couch next to him, “Morning sweetheart.” Dennis flops down next to Jack and lays his head on Jack’s shoulder. “What, Mikey’s cuddles weren’t enough?”
Dennis snorts and reaches for Jack’s mug, “He’s like a big grumpy porcupine this early in the morning.”
“Well, I’m glad you came out here and cuddled me even if you are going to steal my coffee.”

Summary
For all that Jay liked guns and had worked with them professionally for most of his adult life, sometimes he hated them.
Especially in the hands of the psychos who’d decided to shoot up one of the bigger summer festivals held in Chicago.
And naturally, where trouble was, Will had to be right in the middle of it.
One shooter is down, Olinsky’s voice came over their ear pieces, Jay and Erin exchanging a satisfied glance.
Reports say at least one more, Voight added. But keep an eye out — we don’t want any surprises.
“Copy that, Sarge.”

Summary
Jack Abbot was very clearly not the kind of guy that Samira Mohan was into.
Which was fine. There was a whole laundry list of reasons that women didn’t flock to Jack Abbot. He was too short: women expected alphas to be taller. He was approaching fifty. He had a job he was completely dedicated to that did not lend itself to a normal sleeping cycle— or a normal life, for that matter. He had one factory-model leg and one titanium and carbon fiber aftermarket fix for a right-side BKA he’d undergone in Germany. He was chock-full of C-PTSD and anxiety and depression and maladaptive coping mechanisms that ten years of therapy had finally put a slight dent in. He had a wife named Maggie who’d been dead for almost seven years. And he hadn’t had sex in those seven years, apart from the handful of emergency DRIs he’d been able to help with here at the Pitt.
----------
Abbot is the Pitt's emergency contact for designation-related incidents.
Mohan doesn't quite know how she feels about that.
Until, one day, she finds that she needs him. -

He couldn’t deal with it.Or: Robby’s spiraling. He’s had a long day and can’t shut his brain off. Will someone be able to pull him out of the spiral?

Summary
Growing up with a job in the medical field meant aging twice.
Once because time simply passed.
Twice because there were things that made it impossible to snap back from. You simply had to learn how to deal with the darkness you’d gotten acquainted with.
Robby had accepted that long ago.
He had also realized that dealing with it meant changing who you were before — even if it was just a small piece. Every flashback came with a price, every coping came with an adjustment.
Or: Working in the medical field came with a cost — and the need to cope. Over the years, Robby had found his own way of dealing with it all while also staying alive.

Summary
It wasn't surprising when Lena stopped him as he passed the charge desk. "Mohan's got a dicey one in North six. Thirty year-old female with broken ribs and a fractured orbital. Claims she fell, but her boyfriend won't leave the room. You might check on her."
Jack felt his heartrate pick up at the thought of Samira in a small room with a domestic abuser. "Yeah. Thanks for the heads up," he shot back, before turning and heading in that direction.
He told himself to calm down. Samira could handle herself. Hypervigilance was a symptom, his therapist's voice told him, not a reflection of reality. He walked at a brisk pace anyway.
