After the kiss, Adora vanishes. Catra struggles to deal with the loss. Suddenly, she can tell why the room she’s in feels strangely familiar: she’s spent countless hours staring at the artwork displayed on these walls before; the grumbling cat looks exactly like the one she pretends she’s never seen on the Instagram profile that she’s definitely never lurked on in the middle of the night; and the aged leather jacket thrown over the chair in the corner used to frequently hang on the hook by her door. She rubs at her cheeks as she rushes out of bed to the mirror, searching the heterochromatic irises that are no longer both blue, and pressing her fingertips into freckles that she’s never found on her own face.

Summary
One of a few survivors of a ferry that sank in the Atlantic. Catra is alone, Orphaned, and deathly afraid of water. After already having gone through a few traumatic years of loss, bullying and self-isolation, Catra finds herself in her first year of university, content with keeping her head down and getting on with her work. At least that was the plan.
After being forced into a group work project Catra discovers a group intent on befriending her, who accidently dig up the repressed feelings of loss and loneliness. Catra must once again battle with the ghosts of her past, fight her fears, navigate the long-forgotten waters of friendship, and struggle to accept the hardest concept of all: She is not alone.

Catra can't blame her because she does the same, trying to catalog any differences in her face, her voice, her body, anything that hints at what she's missed. Catra never asks first—never pushes—because she knows Adora would always give in. It has to be her choice. Adora's eyes lock on hers, fear and longing battling for dominance in her gaze.

Adora could be relieved but still unavailable, have a girlfriend or want different things that Catra could never provide."No, I'm not seeing anyone," Adora confirms, her gaze telling her everything else Catra wishes to know about them for the next week.
"See you tonight?" Catra offers. She knows she should probably settle in and sleep after her shitty flight but all she can think of is being in Adora's arms and her bed again.
