Inspired by Desire, Roderick Burgess decides it might be useful to try getting through to the captured Dream by breaking his will by force. Morpheus tries his best to remain as calm and untouchable to the outside when yet he is internally breaking by the methods of those immoral mortals, but as the torture continues even after Roderick's death, he fears to lose hope.
But there will be more than graphic-violence, you also get a dead bird, a morally torn son of the tormentor, an incredulous serial-killer and a heart-melting librarian

Dream did his best to slow any healing he did; he needed to hold out as long as he could, preserve what little power he had, until he could escape. Some days were harder than others, and some damage required immediate attention if he didn’t want to die.
As if each use of power wasn’t slowly driving him towards death anyway. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to see his sister – he really, really did – but he’d rather not have their next meeting be their last one.
