If it wasn’t for how nervous he was, this probably would have been a lovely drive. The sky was a lighter blue with some clouds in the distance, not enough to mean rain anytime soon. They had passed some farms on their way out of the city, Kyana eagerly pointing out every cow or horse she could see, but signs of people were slowly fading, as were conversations in the car. VR-LA found a routine in his driving, stare ahead, check up, then left, then right in the mirrors, trilling his fingers against the steering wheel.
Next to him in the passenger seat Dani seemed to have pulled something out to fiddle with. He nearly looked over on instinct to see what she had picked up this time, but stopped before he could look away from the road, hands clenching. Stay focused.

Dani was so enthralled with Kyana that she didn’t register the sound of her door opening until VR-LA’s distracted voice reached her ears.
“Hey, Dani, do you mind looking at—- oh, uhhhh…”
Dani immediately tore her face away from her girlfriend and sat bolt up. VR-LA was standing at the now open door, blinking as he registered what he had just walked in on.
“What the fuck is wrong with you!” Dani squawked. She could feel a much less pleasant amount of warmth turning at her face and ears hot pink as her voice raised in pitch. “Have you never fucking heard of knocking?”
She scrambled to get out of her position half on top of Kyana and between her legs, face only flushing further. She was suddenly excruciatingly aware of how mussed her overly bright hair was and the fact that her hand had been up Kyana’s shirt when VR-LA walked in.

A rewrite of the original "My Dearest Working Companion," where it instead takes place in the post-canon of the final seasons. Mostly silly and I plan to have it stick to the plot of the first fic mostly, just with some different conversation topics between the two. Formatting will be made prettier when separating the letter sections and internal monologue sections, rather than using the dashes like before. I'll also be combining some of the chapters together, even if chapters will be remaining short if there are multiple.

Even still, she was shivering hard enough to make her teeth chatter and joints ache. Blankets weren’t enough. Dani wanted to lay in a bonfire. She wanted hot coals to rub over her skin. She wondered if Finbar would let her take a nap in the oven. Probably not.
After the crew’s adventure in the Frostfell, Dani catches the opposite of a fever and is left feeling very cold

It's not a big issue, but it's certainly a misunderstanding. No conflict truly happens just a short and cute love story where they get to be happy together.

Dani desperately took in a labored breath through her nose, crying with relief when the retching finally stopped. Tears slipped from her eyes from both effort and misery. Kyana shushed her gently, helping to wipe her mouth off and pulling her to her chest, unbothered by the sick all over her clothes.
“We’ll take a nice warm bath when we get home,” she promised. “And then you can lay down and I’ll make some ginger tea with honey for your throat. And we can watch tv or read a book while we drink it and then take a nap and cuddle. Does that sound good?”
Dani nodded weakly, letting out a breathy whine as her stomach cramped.
