Summary
“An apology is only as good as the actions that accompany it,” Sabal breathes. He’s close enough for the words to whisper across the line of Ajay’s chin and down the curve of his neck, leaving the scent of whatever he’s been drinking on his skin. “So, you say you’re sorry. Prove it.”
Ajay’s mind races to come up with a response. He has no idea what to do in this situation; Sabal has always had a hold on him that he can’t seem to break free of, but he knows that he should tread carefully here. The older man is angry and intoxicated, and that’s a dangerous combination in anyone. Still, despite a hundred other things he could have said to put an end to the encounter, only one word comes to mind.

Fic prompt (from unknown source): we slept in the same bed for space reasons but now we’re just waking up and there’s something about your bleary eyes and mussed hair

Somewhere outside, nowhere near enough to be of concern, a pack of dholes chatters as it makes its way down the mountain. A light breeze rustles the flowering bushes outside, slipping through a crack in the nearby window and ghosting through the safehouse. As it touches Ajay, he unconsciously shrinks away from it, perhaps already asleep; he must be, because if he was not, he would recoil from the way his muscular back presses against Sabal’s solid chest, from how his leg stretches out and tangles with the Golden Path leader’s. Sabal feels the weight of Ajay’s calf resting on his, and it is heavier than physically possible. He tries to tell himself that his mind is exaggerating every sensation, but then Ajay hitches his hips back from the edge of the bed and the older man abruptly drops every attempt at rational thought.

Ajay's mother knew that returning to Kyrat would change him. Her final words were accompanied with this promise and this warning. Ajay didn't know just how true those words would be, or how deep the secrets of their family went. He had to wonder, did his mother truly know the future that awaited him upon his return, or did she fail to understand the monster that her beloved son would eventually become as he's thrown into the turmoil of the civil war their family started.

When Sabal learns of Pagan Min contacting Ajay over the radio for friendly little chats, he utilises Ajay to spy for the Golden Path, unaware that they're replaying actions from more than two decades earlier.
Set very early in the game, towards the end of Act One, with Sabal somewhat fanatical and biased about Mohan's legacy without having a true understanding of the prior events which took place.
