A shudder runs through Isagi. The other boy has seen through him, to a part of his psyche he has been unable to connect with since. Because, why had Isagi chosen to eliminate Kira with seconds on the clock? That part of him is remote, a stranger even to himself. It was a boy capable of such remorseless self-service that the moniker of “monster” seems all too fitting.
At this point, Bachira drops the pretence of training. Isagi has no hope of retrieving the ball from him. Instead, Bachira thoughtlessly bounces it, keeping it airborne with a flick of his ankle or knee. “I’m glad I came to Blue Lock,” he says simply, expression open and guileless. “Since I could meet my soulmate.”
Blood rushes in Isagi’s ears. He stumbles, catching himself before he trips over his own feet. “Ex—excuse me?”
