Alina Ming Liang Starkov was raised in semi-seclusion in Shu Han by her parents and her grandmother. Her childhood was filled with love and care and she always went to bed warm, with a full belly. She's had access to a good education, learning about her Shu and Ravkan heritages as well as her Grisha roots. She's stronger, smarter and more empathetic, but she's also still stubborn and naiive; she is a teenager, after all. At the age of 16, she makes the decision to share her light with the rest of the world by going to the Little Palace and furthering her education and training, even if that means sacrificing her own freedom and swearing her oath and fealty to the Crown of Ravka and the Black General's Second Army.
