Keith was the one who saw it happen. It took him a minute to even realize what he was really seeing. It was the final battle, the very last one, before the universe would be free from Zarkon’s empire once and for all. They had already killed Zarkon, now it was just the final resistance, the Galra who were desperate to not become prisoners. And one of them had just flown directly into the face of the Blue Lion, like a Kamakazi plane hitting an Allied war ship during WW2 back on Earth. It had happened so fast, Keith doubted Lance would’ve even noticed it in time to move out of the way.
“Lance!” He heard Shiro call over the radio, but the only answer was static and Blue was still going down. Keith turned and went after it, watching as the giant metal beast struck the hard ground of the moon they were fighting around, and it burst into flames. -

Lance, Hunk, Keith, and Pidge are all finally out of High School, and have made their way into Garrison University; one of the best science schools around. Told from Lance's and Keith's P.O.V. they figure out their ways around the schools and their new lives. Lance wants to get to know Keith more, and Keith wants to try to become a little more social. Can they help each other out, or will their rivalry get in the way? Or... Will they find something much more inside of them? -

When Lance gets involved in a bar fight (because hey, surely a thing such as legal intergalactic drinking age doesn't apply to a Paladin of Voltron), the reason is a surprising one, especially for Keith. Inspired by this post, it marks the beginnings of several kinds of awakenings for the two of them, but something no one anticipates is that Lance's actions have far more serious consequences than a gay crisis.
“What gives? It was just a stupid fight at a bar, wasn’t it?” Hunk tried again, nudging Lance lightly with his elbow. Lance disguised his wince as a cough, ignoring the throbbing from his side. Hunk repeated, more insistently this time, “What were you thinking?”

Lance swallowed, panic working its way back into his chest and into a lump forming in his throat.
“Nothing.”

The bond was a side effect of being a Paladin that no one had expected. According to Coran all generations of Paladins were close, but bonds formed in very few. It was caused in one part by the mind melding that went into creating Voltron and in one part by the connection shared between the current Paladins.
Or: someone's leaking affection for Lance all over the other Paladins and incorrect assumptions are made.
